Considering how old the device is I woulden't be so sure the new palms would be any different because of their new capabilitys.

I disagree, at least in spirit. I owned three Palm devices (Handspring Deluxe, HandEra 330, Tungsten T2) and made them do things they just weren't supposed to do. I challenge ANYONE to find something PPC can do that Palm can't. Granted, because of the OS, some things have to go through a process, like using Quickoffice or DocsToGo to read/write native MS Office Docs, but y'know, MobileDB for Palm is easier than any PPC database option.
For me, it was a convoluted decision. I knew I had to have a smartphone because I was tired of having phone numbers on my cell, email addresses in Outlook Express, & regular addresses, email, & phone in my Palm. I used Beyond Contacts to make my Palm sync with & work like Outlook, but my cell was still separate. I could've gone with the Treo 600, but I like reading ebooks & that screen's too darned small. I could've bought the Treo 650, but I didnt feel like spending $700 for an unlocked one so I could continue using the T-Mobile account I've had for years (since before Voicestream). I've used Blackberry and it's useless for anything other than email. If I'd really wanted to switch services, I'd have gotten something like an SX-66, but the main reason I went with the 6315 was the fact that is was, and still is (I think) the ONLY smartphone that has Bluetooth & WiFi.
The camera is crappy, but I don't care. It's handy when you're not carrying a real camera. The MP3 & video playback is great. The email push works on all my varied accounts. There are hundreds of freeware programs that are decent (not as many as palm, but oh well). As for the speed dial, etc, I have Voice Commander that dials for me, so I don't even use speed dial. Hell, I don't even look up contacts anymore. I just say "Show John Smith."
I use it at home, at work, and on the road. If there's a Taco Bell handy, I can surf on WiFi. If not, my email is always there. I have over 3,000 ebooks and I'm never without something to pass the time.
Now, all I need is the Rhinoskin aluminum hardcase...
