TMobile's Troubleshooting Chart
I cannot power on.
  • Make sure that the battery door is in the green locked position. If you do not lock the battery door, you will not be able to power on the Pocket PC.
  • Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
I receive an “Invalid or missing SIM card” error message.
  • You do not have the SIM in the Pocket PC.
  • You have the SIM in the Pocket PC, but you may have inserted it incorrectly. To insert the SIM:
    1. On the back of the Pocket PC, push the SIM tray to the right to unlock and lift up to open.
    2. Insert the SIM card into the SIM slot by aligning the notched corner on the card with the notched corner in the SIM tray.
    3. Press the SIM tray (with the SIM card inserted) down into the SIM slot and lock it into place by sliding the tray to the left.
  • You have the SIM in the Pocket PC, but you accessed the phone book on the SIM card while the SIM is still initializing after power cycle. Wait for approximately two minutes and then access the SIM phone book again.
I receive a “Caption Static” error message.

You might see the “Caption Static” error message when accessing the phone book on your SIM card. You have to perform a soft reset. Use the stylus to slightly press the Reset hole on the left side of the Pocket PC.

You can also copy your contacts on the SIM card to the Pocket PC to avoid the “Caption Static” error message. To copy contacts to the Pocket PC:
  1. Tap Start > Programs > Phone Book.
  2. Tap Tools > Copy All to Contacts.
  3. Tap OK.
I receive a “Server certificate is invalid” error message.

You might see the “Server certificate is invalid” error message when accessing your POP3 e-mail account. Please ignore this error message. Tap OK to continue.

How do I perform a soft reset?

Occasions may arise where it becomes necessary to reset your Pocket PC. To perform a soft reset, use the stylus to lightly press the Reset hole on the left side of your Pocket PC. The Pocket PC restarts and displays the Today screen.

How do I perform a hard reset?

Perform a hard reset (also known as a full reset) when you want to clear all settings, programs, and data. If you perform a hard reset, your Pocket PC returns to its default out-of-the-box settings and loses all information, settings, and third-party applications saved to the device.
  1. Press and hold down the Power key.
  2. While holding the Power key, use the stylus to lightly press the Reset hole on the left side of the Pocket PC for approximately three seconds.
  3. When the Pocket PC screen begins to fade, release the Power key and remove the stylus from the Reset hole. The Pocket PC resets and powers on.
The display indicates that my PIN is blocked. How do I unblock?

After entering your PIN incorrectly three times sequentially, the SIM will lock itself. To unblock it, you must enter an unblocking key code (PUK). Contact T-Mobile Customer Care at 1-800-937-8997 to receive an unblock code.

My Pocket PC displays a carrier other than T-Mobile on the screen.

This will occur if you a roaming outside of a T-Mobile coverage area. Visit www.t-mobile.com to verify your coverage area.
Note: In California and Nevada, the Pocket PC will display Cingular. This is to be expected. You are using the T-Mobile network. This occurs because T-Mobile and Cingular work cooperatively in California and Nevada.

My Pocket PC will not ring.

If you see the silent or vibrate alert setting indicator on the display, then the ringer is turned off. Refer to the user manual for more assistance with changing the alert setting.

I tried to place a call and heard an alternating high/low tone.

Your call did not reach the system correctly. You may have dialed the number too soon after turning on the Pocket PC. Wait until the display shows “T-Mobile” before making a call. If it's still not working, verify that you are using 10-digit dialing and attempt the call again. Contact T-Mobile Customer Care at 1-800-937-8997 if the problem continues.

I cannot send or receive calls.

Ensure that you have an active signal on the Pocket PC. Avoid electrical or radio interference and obstructions such as bridges, parking garages, or tall buildings.

Also, verify that your SIM card is installed and working and that your battery is charged. Contact T-Mobile Customer Care at 1-800-937-8997 if the problem continues.

My Pocket PC has poor reception and drops calls.

Ensure that you have an active signal on the Pocket PC. Stay clear of any obstructions such as bridges, parking garages, or tall buildings. Contact T-Mobile Customer Care at 1-800-937-8997 if the problem continues.

I cannot hear others on my Pocket PC.

Adjust the volume on the Pocket PC. Verify that you have an active signal on your Pocket PC.

If using the headset, check that your Pocket PC's earpiece is inserted correctly. Contact T-Mobile Customer Care at 1-800-937-8997 if the problem continues.

I receive a “Network not available” error message.

Make sure it has been 24 hours since you have registered for the t-zones service. Verify that you have the correct SIM card in the Pocket PC. Turn your Pocket PC off and on, and retry.

This message can also mean that the T-Mobile network is unavailable, which may be caused by low signal. Contact Customer Care at 1-800-937-8997 for additional assistance. Inform them when you activated the service and when the problem started.

You receive one of the following errors:
  • Server not responding
  • T-Mobile Wireless Error 401
  • Page cannot be found
  • T-Mobile Wireless Error 500
  • Gateway not responding
  • Unsupported content type
  • Malformed content
  • Service not available
These error messages are related to the t-zones services. Go to http://www.t-mobile.com/help/services/tz.asp for t-zones troubleshooting information.

The ROM update seems to work. Bluetooth pairing is better. I've had trouble getting it to turn on once or twice and had to do a soft reset to get it working again. Not sure, but it might have been after it automatically turned off. Very pleased with device. I put 20 CD's of music on a 1 gigabyte SD card and enjoy the music on planes. I read eBooks all the time, play games, take extensive notes--I recommend the FITALY keyboard.
