Unlocking h6315
Got h6315 from ecost for $545. Though customer service rep at ecost told me me this ipaq will not be locked, it came locked to T-mobile.
Does anyone know how to unlock it?
Calling T-Mobile does not help, because they only unlock phones purchased directly through them.

He knows that it's locked, which is why he's asking how to unlock it.

Anyway, the rumor I heard was that T-Mobile will only unlock it if you've been a customer for some period of time (two months?). I hadn't heard that you also had to buy it directly from T-Mobile. What if you bought it from HP?

You are right Steve. One only needs to be a customer of T-Mobile for at least 3 months (with any phone) as I found out after calling them. Then they will unlock the device upon a reqeust. Most of the places, including HP, sell h6315 locked to T-Mobile.
I wanted to use with ATT Wireless because of good GSM service I have with them.
Of course, most of other GSM phones can be easily unlcoked for under $10 or for free by just googling 'GSM unlock phone'.

However, h6315 is a new one and it will take some time before such unlocking is available. However, if anyone has any info on unlocking h6315 for non T-Mobile customers, please, post it here.

Three options
A start service with T-mobile on a non promotional rate plan for 90 days. Basic Plans 19.99 and up. You must make sure this is not a promotional plan other words it will be a 1 Year contract. If you like us you may as well stay with us. You get to use the device with this service.

B Sign up with AT&T and get a free phone with contract use it for what ever thier Unlock time frame is and then begin using your Ipaq.

C Contact HP and inform them that you do not intend to use the device with T-mobile and see from there if they will unlock the device (key word IF)

Tom, thanks for your suggestions. Some comments on the options you suggest:
A) I would have chosen T-Mobile in the first place, but you have no service in my area. I called you guys and you even do not have an affiliate. I heard some people get pre-paid card from T-mobile just to become a customer and then ask unlocking.
B) ATT cannot unlock the phone C) HP will not unlock either. HP does not even support the phone, it is completely supported you.

I also think there are 3 options: a) return H6315 b) wait till people come up with unlock codes as they came up for all other locked phones c) find T-Mobile customer who is willing to unlock.

I decided to go with c). On one of the forums offered $50 to any T-Mobile customer who unlocks my phone. So far the deal is half- through. I will post here the final result.

That certainly would help a lot of H6315 owners. But ATT customer service rep told me they cannot do anything about T-Mob phones.
However, I got unlock phone from a T-mob customer. The problem is that the only SIM card I have, is a non activated T-mob included in the package. I am barely able to register On T-mob network (phone shows only one bar), because T-mob is not present in my area. So H6315 does not accept the code (it tells me right away, without waiting a few seconds).

Does any one know what is the procedure for unlocking with regard to SIM cards? Is it necessary to have inserted an activated T-Mob card? Should one be present in T-mob coverage area?
