My Two Cents on the h6315
Hello All,
I'm new to posting on this site. Prior to my purchase of the 6315, I've had other iPAQs - 4155 and 2215. I still own the 2215. I love that machine. Anyway, for those interested in purchasing the 6315, I thought it would be wise to share some of the problems I've encountered. This is my second 6315 which I picked up from CompUSA just about five days ago. The first was returned because SDIO did not work. I tried multiple cards before I realized the unit was defective.
1. I've discovered that if I drive into an area where there is a weak or low signal, once I've cleared that area, the signal does not automatically readjust. Instead it stays low or is completely gone, often searching for T-Mobile service, until I am forced to reset. I've missed a number of important calls that way. It is truly a frustrating experience. That is not a problem I had with my old Sony-Erricsson T-610. So, I know it's a handset issue.
2. Most times the email works for sending and receiving. However on one too many occasions, I get an error message saying mail cannot be downloaned and telling me to check my connection. It is erratic in this respect.
3. I use a Jabra 250 Bluetooth earpiece. Nice device. However, if I step out of the range of the 6315 and come back, the PDA will not recognize the earpiece (even if I try to do it manually) until I do a soft reset.
4. I am still adjusting to the sluggishness of the OS. Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the GREAT battery life. However, when I have to wait after clicking on Avantgo for a page to load, it get's a bit tiring. By contrast, my 2215 snaps to it.
5. The volume button on the right side of the device is, in my opinion, awkwardly placed. Wish it was easier to handle.
6. Try calling T-Mobile customer service from the 6315 and there is a problem. Their system won't recongnize the numbers when I try to enter. Fortunately, I'm transferred after a few trials.
Now, this device has some great features too. I like the integration. It is almost seamless. Being able to carry a single device that has all the wireless connectivity is wonderful. I think they have a few bumps to get over. Perhaps the follow up to this model will address some of the issues.
Will I keep the device? I am not sure. I need it to function reliably as a phone. I can trade the speed for the integration and wireless connectivity. But, I cannot handle the problem referenced in number one. For now, I may have to resort to my trusted 2215.
I'll keep you posted.
Regards,
David
