Echo phone problems on there 6315/6345
Ok, just got my 6345(Basically an unlocked 6315) and people are complaining that they're hearing an echo when i talk to them on it. I've tried obvious fixes, such as turning down the speaker volume, or even using the headset, but the echo persists. I don't have this problem with my other cell, wich is on the same network. Sooo is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions? Is this a known problem with the 3615?
thanks!

Thanks for the reply, but the thread didn't solve the problem.

I'm not on T-Mobile, and the calls are local, and if i swop my sim, back into my other phone it works fine without any echo's so its not the sim. This problem definatly seems specific to the phone, and not the network. I guess the question is, is the unit defective, or is there a setting that needs tweeking, or is there a softupdate that fixes the problem?

Had my phone for 3 weeks now and have not had this problem at all. Based on that, you have a problem with your phone.

no problems here....
The only problem I've been having is low gain on my mike from the included earpiece.

Thanks for the replies!

Well i've determined that the problem comes and goes(even in the same call) - basically seems like on average ~20% of the calll seem to have "some" echo to them at some point in time.

Its interesting to note, that very few people that i've talked with (only one so far) have actually mentioned the echo to me, rather I actually have to mention it to them, before they end up telling me, "well actually, there was a bit of an echo..." etc.
This is due to the fact that the echo that they're hearing from my phone is quite quiet( as phone echo's go), and is not all together that distracting, and it seems to come and go, so people just don't bother mentioning it.

I'll keep on eye/hear on it and let you know if i figure it out.

I've had a lot of complaints by the person I'm calling
They say they hear a significant echo and it's most everyone all the time. I guess I'll call T-Mobile CC and see if they will send me a replacement. Other than that I've had great success with it. I have a bluetooth GPS and headset that work great. The echo doesn't seem to matter if I use the bluetooth headset or not. I havent tried the wired headset.

Like in the other post I'd probably suggest the switch out if possible. It seems to have worked with my wifes. Luckily I haven't really had any problems.

Yes, this is DEFINATLY a problem with the h6315 and NOT the carrier. I'm not on T-Mobile, I'm on rogers, and i've never experienced any real echo problems, other then overseas calls and such, on any of my other mobile phones, just on my h6315/65.

My h6365 definatly exibits echo calls about 40% of the time, and it really ticks me off. I can't exchange this phone as a bought it overseas, so i'm stuck with it. It appears that a large number of these units have this problem, as it seems to be a common complaint, where as some other units seem to be free of it. Most users are on T-Mobile - I feel sorry for there support reps, having to deal with all the echo complaints when in reality it isn't T-Mobiles fault - but then again perhaps they should have tested the phone better, before offering it to there customers. Anyway, really ticks me off that HP put out a "half baked" products like this. I'll return the favor to HP and be sure not to purchase ANY other products from them EVER - period.

i really feel for you catspaw, i to have purchased my ipaq 6365(6315) from a overseas source but have been lucky as my unit hasn't had any major problems .... yet!.....

As for HP/Compaq, it really doesn't suprise me, i feel there support for this unit and from my experience many of there products is terrible. Sorry i've just had a couple of bad experience's with there customer support team!

Anyway i hope they can bring a fix out soon as i know how frustrating it can be to get a new gadget that you have spent a lot of money on and then in turn it doesn't work properly! Good Luck

Ok, thanks for the responses/support

I think i've tracked down the problem, and the "typical" solution did fix it - basically i've got to turn down the volume to the lowest possible setting - at wich point i've elliminated the echo for the listener, but have trouble hearing what the listener is saying - not sure if its a good trade off, but its a start.

So any idea why this is the case - I've had a dozen or so good cell's in the past an none of done this since the early 90's. - so is this caused by crapy lowquality components in the ipaq, or poor design or what?

Mic settings
You could try turning off the mic AGC under start/settings/IPAQ audio the manually adjust the gain to a level that works for you.

I personally have not noticed any echo.

Turning off the gain in the iPaq audio settings may help, but some of these phones have this problem. It doesn't help that the problem seems to pop up in so many different ways. Some only have it with a headset, some only have it without a headset, some have it always, some have it only on some calls, etc.

To top it off you are trusting the other party to tell you about the echo and describe it in the same terms as your other callers. I had someone complain about the echo, but no one else was. Turns out other people had it but weren't telling me.

And to make it even worse....you are not hearing it yourself so it's hard to gauge if there really is an echo. After I asked, someone said they get an echo when I am in the car. Well, I was using the speakerphone in my truck. I'm not sure I expect good sound quality under those conditions.

Bottomline, return it if you can, but you may find the next one has the same problem. Sound quality (phone and speaker) has been one part of this product that I have been very disappointed with.
