Anyone having any Luck with Voice Command?
If so what microphone are you using, and what are the settings?

I've been trying this thing, without much luck, seems like it only gets me %20 of the time. The thing at times drives me crazy, & when i start to lose my temper, I must look pretty funny helling into my pda.. I half expecting the thing to end up textmessage someone about lipfungus (possibly an inside joke)

well i have found that it works good with the motorola bluetooth headset. just speak into it at a normal volume. background noise can be a problem however.

I Have never gotten it to work while driving a car. Background noise kills it every time. Haven't had much luck with my Jabra 250 Bluetooth headset and Voice command. You definatley have to pause for the headset to activate once the Voice command button is pushed, but the background noise kills it. Best luck with the included wired earbud included.

I know adjusting the microphone Gain would probally help, but I got so frustrated, I uninstalled VC for a later day when nothing else is going wrong.

yes i know the feeling. it can be really frustrating. VC is a great idea but it certainly isn't flawless.

It works for me (most of the time)
I use it with a Motorola BT headset. It is not perfect but it is pretty impressive. You do have to get your timing right and shouting at it does not help.....

One thing I have done to improve performance is to filter my sync with a category to only put contacts on my phone that I am likely to need there. This speeds up the recognition and provides fewer opportunities for errors.

It is nice not to have to train the system but a training method for persistently unrecognizable contacts would be good.

It is no less reliable than the rest of the damned device......

I've tried it without any headphone, with the earbud, with jabra 250, and the motorola 810 headsets, and I still find the thing practically useless, unless i'm in a perfectly quiet room. Just for the record i don't start off yelling at the thing, just ends up that way after i've repeated myself a dozen times to the damn thing.

So questions:
1 - What settings are you guys/girls using in the IPAQ Audio/AGC menu? (Automatic Gain Control Enabled or Disabled? and how much gain?)

2 - What version of Voice Command are you using? (i've got v1, but i know that v1.1 is the newest)

ps Thats a good tip about the syc GrahamO

I wish they had a trial version to test out, it's pretty expensive if you find out you don't like it.

This is my biggest gripe about it as well, having VIaVoice on my PC, I wanted to have it on my Ipaq. I probably should have tried it on my 5550 with the faster processor, I don't think the 6315 processor will effectively manage the software.

Microsoft Voice Command, ooooo la la, so magnifico. Man, I read a review that made this software sound so golden, that it had the best voice recognition around, that it was soooooo amazing. So why am I yelling at my phone like it's a bad dog for the past half hour? Anyone have any settings that work successfully with this thing on the Mic gain end? Or is this program just another useless piece of software that they pressed out in a matter of months. Funny, Microsofts website says it's the result of 10 years of research.... maybe they forgot that in the real world, we have background noise. Spending too much time in a lab tends to alter one's perception of reality I suppose.

I had a trial working but yes its hit and miss with any background noise - I was talking to it directly not through any microphone/headset. Considering what its running on it does a reasonable job, its as good as my old P800 with voice recognition set, they all have the same problem with background noise though. You can't expect too much out of a PPC app like this considering its size and price it does remarkably well. PLUS running anything on a 6315 without it hanging/freezing is a miracle anyways

It seems to be a device specific problem. It never worked perfectly on my 6315, but hasn't missed a beat on my XDA Mini. The down side is that I could use my headset to issue commands with the 6315, but you have to talk into the unit or use the wired headset with the Mini. I'm not sure if the difference is in the sampling rate of the mike or the processor speed of the two devices.

Just seconding what chibajoe said--it's the device's crappy mike and sound system, not the software. MS Voice Command has worked flawlessly for over a year on my Pocket PC Phone, but with the 6315, it isn't nearly so perfect.

I use a cometitive program called Handheld Speech Voice Lookup(link in MyPDA). It works ok, I really don't think any voice program is going to be perfect. I can't remember if the one I use has a trial, but could be an option for you guys.
