No, no... sorry, dude. I didn't mean to totally *not* address your issue- I'm suffering from the same problem, myself. The only workaround I can think off is to disable auto-checking of GMail, and then just manually send/receive. Once it finishes, you read what you want to read, delete what you want to delete, and then MOVE the stuff you want to keep to a different folder. Basically, I just make sure there's nothing I want to keep before each send/receive, since I know the Inbox is about to go BYE BYE! On occasion, I'll send/receive, and it'll keep certain messages, or even all of them- but it's really erratic as to how it decides what to keep and not.

please let me know if that is the case or if i might be setting something wrong. i HAVE set the gmail setting to "keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox" AND "enable POP for mail that arrives from now on." i've undone and reset both of those options a few times, but i still get the message downloading and then going bye-bye the next time it does a send-receive.
