I’m having problems trying to connect an external GPS device to my h6315.
I am trying to get my Garmin eTrex Venture talking to my h6315 so I can navigate with Mapopolis. The problem is that neither Mapopolis (nor Pocket Streets) can find the GPS device when it is connected to my h6315.
I know the GPS device works fine - I use it frequently with my ThinkPad and Microsoft Streets and Trips and it works great.
I bought one of these DB9 serial to iPAQ adapter cables from gomadic – this lets me connect the eTrex to the h6315:

I just can’t get the applications to see the GPS device at all. Is there some way to assign a specific COM port on the h6315 for the GPS data to come through on?
Here is an example error from PocketStreets (I have a similar problem with Mapopolis...):
I have tried making sure ActiveSync is not running on the iPAQ in case that is goofing with the COM ports somehow. Also I have tried a multitude of combinations of starting the GPS, plugging it in and launching the mapping application etc. Nothing seems to work. Am I missing something really obvious? (The GPS NMEA data is the correct version etc)
Since the problem is the same in Pocket Streets and Mapopolis I assume the issue is not related to the applications but more at a system level (or maybe even the cable – which is brand new).
Has anyone had any success with a config similar to mine? i.e. getting GPS data into the h6315 over a serial cable.
Thanks in advance.
Mike
