New ROM Patch
In a recent fit of insanity (and frustration) I decided to apply the modified rom patch to my 6315. This was the best decision that have made since buying this thing!!!! The device is not stable (no resets). The "one ring" problem seems to have disappeared. The bluetooth is so stable that I can go out of range, and when I return the headset is automatically reconnected (never had this happen before). Sound quality is better, and the device seems to run faster. I even reconnected my Jabra BT250 (which previously gave me tons of grief) and it has been working fine. For now, this patch has made the 6315 the device it should have been from day one.

Here is the link:
http://www.lvlolvlo.net/PDA/ROMUpdate.htm

Please read the page carefully before deciding on whether you want to do this. I used the newest patch, which reinstalls all of the tmobile apps. The older update flashed the rom, but leaves the device completely free of the tmobile apps.

Thanks for the post. This should bring some relief to many 6315 owners.

It is my understanding that all that was done to modify this ROM patch was to remove the section of code that prevented it from installing on other 63xx devices. Read the link in the OP, it explains things better.

There seem to be nothing but lies coming from T-Mobile about release. I have heard so many dates that I quit believing them. The thing is that the only thing that T-Mobile is going to do is what the guys who modified this patch have already done.

I have always felt that way. They apparently sold a device that they were ill-prepared to support (anyone who has owned a PDA knows that ROM patches are a way of life). I believe that T-Mobile is never going to release a ROM update for this machine. They are content to leave us stuck with their most expensive device and no support. If T-Mobile is unwilling or unable to FULLY (including ROM updates) converged devices, then I won't go through the trouble (and expense) of buying a T-Mobile branded device. I can spend get a device for cheaper on eBay. I know that means no support, but I'm not gettting any from T-Mobile anyway. I really owe a big THANKS to HP for releasing the update, and the guys who took the the time to modify it to make it work for us 6315 owners.

To all those who made this ROM update possible, a big THANK YOU goes out to you! I updated mine using the "old" ROM because it doesn't have all the T-mobile crap on it that I don't use that soaks up precious memory.

T-Mobile "crap" doesn't use up any RAM, if you delete the shortcuts in the start up file. The executables are in ROM.

The difference is that I can restore mine to operation if I so choose; if they aren't in ROM they cannot be used.

They did come out with a patch for the XDA (after about 1/2 year or so); I think they will patch the 6315. What is frustrating is that they could simply get the fixed patch now running around, check it out on their own 6315, and then post it to their update site. I suspect that they are manually fixing the HP 63xx patch instead.

Now there are apparently a bunch of sites running articles about how this is not an authorized patch and you should not use it because it will f*** up your iPaq. Right, and not updating it will allow it to continue it's slow slide into unusability.

I think they are saying it is an unauthorized patch, which will void your warranty, not a bad patch.
