Someone at HP must have messed up.
I am subscribed to HP driver&patches alerts, and got an email today informing me a new ROM update is available for the IPAQ6340, which I have. I thought this was great, so I immediately went to the download page.
Sure enough, there's a package described as: "This package contains the ROM Update Utility (RUU) and ROM image for the HP iPAQ Pocket PC
h6340. The ROM Update Utility replaces the current ROM image on the handheld with an updated version."
The version to which it would be upgraded would be 1.10.08, from the 1.00.36 I have.
The odd thing was that the "release date" was reported as 31 March 2005, which is almost a month ago. Unfazed, I downloaded the package and started the upgrade process.
*BANG*
"Invalid SKU! This upgrade is for models h6315 only"
Ahhhh, I knew this was too good to be true. Someone messed up and set the 6315 update for US T-Mobile customers as if it was a 6340 update, which in turn triggered the email alert I got.
Thinking back, March 31 is about the time the T-Mobile released their 6315 update. And indeed, all the way at the bottom of the download page where I found the update was this line: Supported models: h6315.
