Alternative to my 6315
Okay, I have been having problems w/ my 6315 like everyone else and I have delt with it, but recentlly I have been wanting somthing smaller but still offering similar functions. I have heard the imate Jam being talked about; I just wanted to know if anyone has any pics of the 6315 beside the imate Jam. Does anyone have any knowledge on this that I should consider before buying (place to buy, pro's/con's, extra features). Thanx

Is there a way to set it for T-mo's GPRS?

Does it have the SD card slot? Any type of memory card?

www.imate.com has details of the 2K unit with photos and comparisons. In real life, the imate is great. smaller, good screen and data entry. Does all the 6315 is supposed to do.

The Imate PDA 2K is an awsome machine, except that there is no extended battery and the battery life is not so good. The PDA 2K has a slide-out backlit keyboard, 128 MB RAM, 64 MB ROM, and a 400 Mhz Processor. Plus, this is an XDA III; the XDA folks know how to build Pocket PC Phones. For example, they RECESS all the switches, so the darn thing doesn't turn in your pocket and start dialing Timbuktu...

However, I like my 6315; great battery life with normal or extended battery, and it is smaller. Plus, it is about 1/2 the cost of the PDA 2K.

I have a two year agreement with T-mobile. Can I use an Imate on the T-mobile network?

Totally. I've been with TMO for over four years. Bought a Jam just last week, popped my SIM in, and away we go, no fuss no muss. Jam is a beauty. Get equipment protection plan.

And yes, if you're gonna buy it, buy it from David Weiniger--he's the best. http://www.dweiniger.com/ Mad Monkey Boy Rulz! Skip Expansys.

That's a big deal. No wifi? Using the phone (gprs) to get online is ok if u have to but for that money and u can't even get conected worth a toot, no thanks. I love my 6315 anyway and that feature alone makes the ipaq superior to the xda anyday! Is'nt that the whole point? I want a computer that happens to be a phone. Not a phone that happens to be a computer. I'll take the sub par reception on the phone for the excellent pc end of the device. As long as I keep it somewhat devoid of useless third party plug ins, all is fine. And the new update. Gotta have that.

If you don't use the wi-fi, the JAM is very nice, very small! I found I never used it, so no big loss for me.

I have not used the PDA2k, but have read that both imates are more stable than the 6315. I didn't have a lot of problems with my 6315, but some. And it was on the slow side.

The downside is it is not an official TMO phone (if that matters to you) and the price. And although HTC has a repair center in Texas, I was told my dead pixel would have to go to Dubai

I have to ask

How did you get the dead pixel into the envelope to send to them?

I was just pointing out that the statement "The IMATE Jam does everything the 6315 does" was incorrect...

Personally, I only use my wifi at home. I prefer the free GPRS while roaming.

However, having owned HTC products, they are vastly better phones, and still just as good at being pocket PCs. The biggest flaw in the 6315 is now the fact that the buttons and joystick actually protude, instead of being recessed. This causes the phone to cancel calls in the pouch, or start calling in the pouch. I have found that leaving the extra keyboard on the 6315 helps somewhat.
