So many issues...don't know where to begin :-(
Ok, I love this toy but man does it have bugs or am I an idiot :-(...regardless, I need *major* help.

Let's see -- background -- I am a new T-mobile customer and do not have their T-zones or Internet option *yet*. I want to use the H6315 for phone, no bluetooth *yet* either, but I do want Wi-Fi.

(1) Wi-Fi connectivity

One issue is -- recently I haven't been able to connect to any Wi-Fi spot, even the ones that are unsecured. I live downtown in a major city so around me there are 10-15 networks that are detected all the time. I tried manually connected to ones that I am sure do not have security -- no go, it will try and try and never connect. I even used the free program called WiFiForum and it shows networks are NOT protected yet the H6315 will never connect to them.

So one question is -- how in the world do I define different profiles and make sure the IPAQ connects to the same network all the time? Also, does anybody have success going down the road with the IPAQ and having it connect to various networks on the fly? To me that seems it's like a dream, since it doesn't connect even when I'm stationary :-(

(2) Active Sync issues

Second problem -- somewhat major...when I dock the IPAQ my Outlook on the PC (Outlook 2003) crashes and ActiveSync reports synchronization errors. I have no idea what it could be -- I put a word document (relatively small) in the IPAQ shared folders and it crashed complaining that it cannot read the file (it was not opened at all, maybe because it was Word 2003 format? But the IPAQ word should read it as it does read others I've put there). And no, I haven't run out of space on the IPAQ, there are ~15 Mb free.

(3) 'Hack' software

I used to be a tinkered back in the day and I'd definitely like to have a lot of options that I could customize on the H6315 - can you guys recommend any kind of software which will give me greater control over different options in the IPAQ? I am getting pretty tired of having only the stylus and clicking around on the screen (for example in the Wi-Fi option, there's only 'Connect' and 'Remove Settings' for each of the networks listed; I am sure there's more options like primary network/etc. and ways to influence them).

Phewwww, I feel like I've written a highly incoherent essay here :-(...I'd appreciate any feedback and help with this little device which claims to do wonderful things ;-)

THANKS A LOT!!!

First, make sure you have the latest available ROM. This solves many issues with the 6315. If I were you, I'd hard reset and take it slow to make sure I am not introducing any problems wiht third party software.

Regarding AS, remove it completely and reinstall. See if that helps. Also, be sure you have it set to convert documents. Pocket Word cannot read .doc files. They must be converted in ActiveSync first. This is under Options, Rules.

Search for more "tweaking". A good app that has a nice GUI interface is Tweaks2K. You can also find the details of all the tweaks on the website.

I do have the latest ROM update, also updated the wireless driver. Basically those were the only two updates on the HP website.

Will look for the tweaking programs, thanks a lot!!!

Ok, one more issue to add to the pile -- today I got the T-mobile basic T-zones for $5.99 and I'm trying to set it up -- I can't seem to even connect anywhere, as I get a message saying that GPRS dials out and then the remote server has hung up.

Is there a step-by-step configuration anywhere out there for these IPAQ H63XX systems that one can use to configure Wi-Fi, GPRS? ActiveSync with the computer and configuration for that would be nice too....

About the only thing that's working right now on my IPAQ is the phone ;-(...even that is sometimes freezing and the SIM card becomes invalid somehow and I have to reset it and wait ~1 minute to load/identify the card.

THANKS!

For the GPRS, T-Zones only pays for, well, T-zones, not Internet access. You can get to T-Zones by using a wap browser. I recommend NetFront, but Klondike also works.

Note that you cannot use Pocket Internet Explorer for WAP browsing of this sort.

Here are the settings:

Homepage: http://wap.myvoicestream.com/
Setup the Proxy Server to
216.155.165.50 Port 8080

Also, go into your GPRS settings and make sure that there is no Access Point, etc. I just manually establised a new connection with all default settings, and that works for T-Zones, provided the proxy is set up as above and you are using a geniune WAP browser, not PIE.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I did all this and yet when the pop-up window saying: 'dialing GPRS' comes up, it waits for a few seconds and then an error message comes up saying the remote dial-in server has disconnected. Could this be b/c T-zones is not officially supported on the IPAQ H6315?

Does anybody have this successfully running? I talked to T-Mobile and they said if I have the IPAQ I need to get the $19.99 plan.

THANKS!

Your GPRS is not set up. Go into connections and create a new connection. Set the type as "Cellular Line (GPRS)". Keep hitting next until you finish; leave all the fields blank. NExt, go to the "Advanced Tab" and select your new connection as the default network for programs that connect to the Internet.

Hit OK to get back to the TOday screen. Tap the "G" icon and connect. Your GPRS should connect successfully.

Now you are ready to use netfront or klondike to access T-zones. Enter the Proxy as listed above.

I know this stuff works, I use it several times a day, and all I have is T-zones on my account for GPRS access.

Weird...

OK, that makes sense. I've only had PDA/Phone devices since I came to T-Mobile, so my GPRS was activated from the first day.

Ok, no go according to T-mobile; they told me that their server checks the IPAQ phone device and will only allow the full Internet option and NO T-zones and hence the GPRS will always disconnect :-(

Can anybody say for sure that they have done this:

(1) started with a regular phone plan

(2) added T-zones

and has it functioning for GPRS on a H6315?

I think it may be different if it's the $19.99 option first and then you downgrade to the T-zones and maybe T-mobile forgets? to remove the internet block or something :-(

Thanks!!!

Ok, another update -- by now I guess most of you are sick and tired of these stories :-)...anyway, I went in last night and added T-zones AND the Internet option, and now the GPRS is working fine and I can surf the web.

I can't get e-mail from GMail for some reason, and I don't know why. Now the question is -- I do NOT usually surf the web on this machine, or not enough to warrant the $19.99 full web access; I would *love* to get e-mail through GMail via a cheaper (maybe T-zones?) option the same way that it works using Wi-Fi....but I don't think it'd work.

Can anybody pitch in with some comments or ideas? I will eventually drop this $19.99 option but would really really like to get this working with T-zones at least :-(

THANKS!

Oh and right now as an access point I have the wap.voicestream.com which is against what most people were saying to do when considering T-zones...I don't know if this'd make any difference...

Your access point is normal for Internet access plans.

I have had three different devices with T-Mobile: Original XDA, 6315, and now XDA mini. I have never had any Internet plan, only T-zones.

At first I used T-zones for 2.99 a month, then I upgraded to T-zones for 4.99 (unlimited), and I finally ended up with corporate e-mail (which gives access to t-mobile smtp servers, to make it easy to send mail) for about $10 per month.

My setup:

You should not have an access point at all; everything is defaulted. The device should hook up to GPRS at that point. If you use an access point, then the T-mobile servers expect you to have an internet plan and they shut you down.

Of course T-mobile wants to sell you the $20 internet plan, and it is not a bad price for unlimited GPRS. However, a pure WAP browser should not require an internet plan. But first you have to be able to connect to GPRS by clicking on the GPRS Icon in the menu bar and hitting "connect". If you are not browsing via HTTP, the servers don't care.

I should note that my T-zones were originally hooked up to a standard Motorola phone (I bought my XDA right after that). Perhaps that has something to do with this. However, T-Mobile changed their system settings about a year ago, and I had to fiddle with my settings to get everything working again after that.

I should also note that I am in Los Angeles, and the servers may be configured differently.

Just out of curiosity -- when did you change over from the H6315? I guess last year sometime T-mobile removed the port 80 support from their T-zones...so it might be that before you were using the T-zone bypass while on the H6315 and now with the new device it somehow works with T-mobile's T-zones in the WAP mode...

Or of course -- I read somewhere else that server configurations are different for different regions of the country. I'm in Boston and can't seem to get this to work unfortunately :-(

THANKS A LOT FOR THE ADVICE!

I was using the XDA when they changed over, but my 6315 worked fine with T-zones; they always worked in WAP mode ONLY.

What happens when you try and make that default connection for "Cellular Line GPRS" like I mentioned above?
