How does hw6715 compare to i-mate PDA2k?
I am bound and determined to stop carrying around a laptop, mobile phone, and PDA. My recent use of the iPAQ hx2750 has meant that, for short trips and day-to-day use I can leave the laptop at home, but I've run into other issues and, as such, am willing to bite the bullet and look at an all-in-one PDA/phone combination. I've been doing some research on the i-mate PDA2k, and like what I see, but am wondering if someone more knowledgeable than I has taken the time to compare this to the upcoming hw6715, if only on paper. One thing I can't peg down is whether or not the hw6715 will have Bluetooth. I NEED quad-band GSM/GPRS, Bluetooth, and WiFi, and a thumb keyboard would be nice. I'd also like something powerful enough to be able to run a myriad of programs, including moving map navigation software. I already have a Bluetooth GPS receiver, so the built-in GPS abilities of the hw6715 aren't a huge selling feature, although one less thing to carry around would be nice, all other things being equal. Everything else is gravy! So, I guess what I am asking for, is for someone who knows more about these devices than I do figure out which of these two communicators is for me. I guess that might be hard to do until HP releases the final configuration details for the hw6715 (the hw6500 series is already a loser due to its lack of WiFi), but if someone else has already been going through the same process as I, trying to narrow down the competitors to get the best-of-the-best all-in-one phone/PDA combination, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Cheers!

Craig.

I have been looking for an all in one device to replace my Treo 650 and hx4705. I want a fast processor, VGA screen, Wifi, Bluetooth, WM 5.0, quad-band GSM, SD card slot and plenty of internal memory. So far nothing has fit the bill. The hw6700 sounds interesting but comes up a bit short in my view. I am not impressed with the smallish square screen.

I have my eye on the HTC Universal. If the rumored specs are true it may be the ONE.

Early specs say the Universal will have everything you want except that it is ony supposed to be tri band.

For me, quad-band is probably the most important. I plan on using this device all over the world as a phone, so need that functionality. Then, in order, it's WiFi, Bluetooth, and thumb Keyboard. From there on in, I can live without if needs be. Tri-band, though, won't cut it. As such, it's still a toss up between the i-mate PDA2K (probably the best out there that actually is in the hands of consumers) with possibly the HP iPAQ hw6715 giving it a run for its money. Also, with Windows Mobile 5.0 just around the corner, I don't know if I'm better to wait it out. If it's going to be a while, or if these manufacturers are going to offer updates, I'd like to adopt now, but I can wait a few more months of carrying around two or more devices if the ultimate replacement will last me a year or two when I finally do get it!

Craig,

Currently PDA2K is only GSM/GPRS, not 3G enabled; Screen resolution is only 320X240, same as hx2750, but I'd prefer to have VGA screen (after having hx4700 for half-a-year now).

Otherwise, this would probably be the best device already.

So if 3G and VGA screen isn't your target, I believe you can set out to get PDA2K.

Decision is yours.

Good luck.

Using HW6515
I just got one HW6515, great Machine! I stopped using my Imate Jam. Working extremely well as a Phone, Dual Slot is key to load many programs. Screen size 240 x 249 is OK (remember Treo was 160 x 160 and was OK)
Integrated GPS is a definite plus and I prefer to give up wifi for the 2 slots. I can alwayse use sandisk combo wifi and memory card when wifi is needed
Recommended!

Congratulations. It looks like a great device. How well does the GPS work?

I really want integrated WiFi. Has anyone tried the new Samsung i730? That phone has really got my attention and may be the ticket to give up my Treo and iPaq. I wish Verizon's data rates were a little cheaper though. Best I can tell unlimited data is double what I pay with Cingular.

The I730 looks awesome but I will wait for a GSM version or a similar device.
