I'm not 100% cos I don't have the 6315, but for my sony ericsson p800 you download a freeware MP3 to WAV converter and use the WAV file.

Sorry, don't know about the folder to use.

according to the pdf manual (see another thread)...
Quote:
To use custom .wav, .mid, or .wma files as ring tones, use ActiveSync on your personal computer to copy the files to MyDevice\Windows\Rings\ folder on your device. Then select the sound from the Ring tone list.
If you can convert to .wma from .mp3 that would be better than .wav as the file size is much smaller.

No need for a conversion. You can put an MP3 ringtone into the Windows/Rings folder and then choose it via Start/Settings/Personal/Phone/Ring tone. Cheers, Sabesh.

Use Windows media encoder and convert your ringtones into wma. It's free and it works.

I play a MP3 ring tone and it's work fine ... and I have change the registry key to put the default windows ring folder on my SD Card ... because I used a full title of an album for ring tone. It's working very fine at this time.

Mp3 in Windows/Rings folder works great. How can I only use a section of an mp3 as the tone to save memory?

Droopy
Sounds interesting. What registry key do I change and how?

How do I edit an MP3 file so that I only have the intro as my ring tone?

All the Best

Dear zimmo

iPaq HW6515

I have been “playing games” with my ringtones. I have recorded 3 ringtones into wma using windows media encoder as you advised. I am able to adjust the ringtones for the phone.

I would also like to adjust the tones for the alarm and sms.

For the alarm I have found that if you put the files in windows on the mobile it can recognise wav files but not wma. So my new alarm tone takes up a lot of space. Is there another way?

I have been unable to change the tone for sms messages. Any suggestions?

Hope you are keeping well,

All the Best

Dear lomdel,

I don't know how to edit an MP3 but in my recent messing about I converted the mp3 to .wma by windows media encoder. I was then able to save space. You can also exactly edit the length of the ringtone using media encoder. 9mb free download though with windows validation stuff.

All the Best

reducing the size of a ringtone
I convert my mp3's to .wav using Itunes that I got with my ipod, then I play with Windows sound-recorder. Here you can delete before or after certain parts of the track before saving. This way I normally get my ringtones down to ca. 3mb.

Sorry but you don't gain space by converting mp3 to wma coz of the file format or codec used. but only by reducing the bit rate.
It is totally µsoft bs that u can use lower biterate and have the same quality.
comparing wma and mp3 on the same biterate, the wma is a bit greater and sounds more dull to me. I know it is a matter of taste.
Beeing that said , the quality of your ring tone isn't that important.
coz Bad speaker quality greatly removes the benefit of good compression and codec.
Using windows sound recorder it is easy to manipulate any Wav, and then use any codec u like, that is supported on the ipaq, to compress it.
but if you would do some googling on mp3 edit you'll find some free programs who are able to manipulate mp3 directely.

Place any mp3 directley in the Windows/Rings folder and you can use it as a ring tune.

Mortring is also able to use custom ringtones and/or sms-tone per caller or caller group.
but I havn't used it enough to say if it is really good and stable.
