Sync Cradle Problems on 6510 - design flaw ?
Would be interested to hear from anyone who has found that the sync cradle has stopped working within days of attaching it to their PC via one of the USB ports.

It's just happened to me and it also happened to a colleague a few hours ago. We've tried replacing the cradle with a working one to make sure it's not a USB or PC problem and all is fine, but on re-attaching the original cradle it still doesn't work. We've also tried rebooting the PC etc.

I know it's only two failures so far but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this - if so, it could be that there's a design or manufacturing error on these cradles that HP needs to know about ASAP.

I too have the same problem it is just intermintent. I went out and bought another travel cable that seems to do the trick. Unfortunately the cradle itself doesn't seem to work each time.

Hello.

I have had a very similar problem. I got the HW6515 about two weeks ago and am very happy and impressed with this unit. After experiencing the 6365 from HP I was not sure what to expect but I have been very pleasantly surprised.

Anyway, everything was fine and then after about 5 days my iPaq was sitting in its cradle and synced with my system and all of a sudden I hear the Activesync disconnect sound as if the iPaq had been removed from the cradle. I thought it might have been a one-off failure so I restarted the iPaq and the computer but now the iPaq would no longer sync at all. It did, however, carry on charging through the USB cable, just not connecting to activesync. I called HP and they sent me a new cradle which worked fine. I took the old cradle to work so that I could use it for USB charging but all of a sudden, after having had the faulty cradle at work for a few days, it started working again out of the blue with activesync. And now, the new replacement one from HP has stopped connecting to activesync again. It’s very puzzling. I have checked the device manager when I plug and unplug the iPaq and it doesn’t change at all, not even the unrecognised device message comes up. It can't be my USB sockets because all of my other USB devices are working fine. I am using Activesync 4.0 on both my work and home systems and Windows XP Pro SP2.

I think it might be a design flaw which causes this intermittent problem with the new HW6515 cradles. Has anyone found a solution to this or is it just a fault?

Thanks.

I purchased my 6515 10 days ago, and guess what I managed to sync for the first 3 days and then nothing. USB is fine but it cannot find my iPAQ
Perhaps I should contact HP for a new cradle?

This is exactly what happened to me. Definately call HP but, if you can, try your iPaq in another cradle prior to calling HP in order that you can confrim that your iPaq is ok so that HP won't make you run through all kinds of tests since your have proved that there is nothing wrong with the PDA. This is what I did and they simply sent me a brand new cradle.

Yup same thing happened to me, now its working fine again and i wonder why. Perhaps its a design flaw. What i noticed is that it is that the first sync for the day has a problem as the phone tries to connect via gprs the second it is on the cradle, this perhaps conflicts with the sync then I get the disconnected sound and I just remove the ipaq from the cradle and put it back again then its ok. Could be just me anyway.. dont think a new cradle will help as I think this problem is the same with all the bros here.. hmmph.. solution, got fed up and got a sync cable for the house PC and a bluetooth dongle in the office. so if the sync drops i just click to sync via BT..

Yes, yes, yes, yes I have had exactly the same problem.
Have tried uninstalling ActiveSync, deleting directories, running registry cleaner, soft reset, hard reset, etc. etc. I returned the machine to supplier and they checked the cradle (it checked OK) and suggested using ActiveSync 3.7. It worked! So got everything loaded and set up - fantastic all brilliant.

Guess what happened about 5 days later? Yes the same thing - now I have a completely useless £450 machine.

Come on HP what is happening? you have a real issue here.

Am getting a USB sync cable in next few days will keep you posted on if it has any effect.

Trog Tuite

...a few days later - got the USB sync cable - EUREKA - it worked straight away - just doing full restore now - so yes I would say there IS a problem with the cradles - spoke to HP and they are sending me a new one as well

Same for me
Mine lasted 2 hours. I would say this is a faulty batch problem. The cradles are a generic HP cradle which are also used on a number of other current iPaqs (just the cradle bit is different - you can detatch it and replace it with one which fits other models).

So it is unlikely to be a DESIGN fault otherwise everyone would be up in arms. More likely a faulty batch.

I changed the PC, Changed the USB Port...all waste of time. HP Cradle 6510 - has a design flaw ?

Thank GOD, has usual I put back the PPC in cradle to charge the battery, suddenly my computer got a POPUP HP Smart Phone detected & working, I don't know how long it will work. I decided 2 buy a spare USB cable..

I too have had the problem. Did those of you that had the problem call the U.S. or U.K. to get it replaced?

Sync Cradle Problems on 6510 - design flaw ?
I have the same problem, but I don;t think that it is a cradle problem. I have the same problem with my sync cable. I tested with a brand new 6515 out of the box and it synced without any problem. I put mine back and it still didn't recognize it. I did a hard-reset back to default settings and it came back to life. I think its a problem with the 6515

I had got exactly same problem as mentioned above. Sync happily for a few days and now it is DEAD!!!

I even tried delete partnership, and I now cannot see any ipaq when I try recreate partnership.

The problem is not bound to USB sync. I also try IR partnership and it cannot establish either. (the pc detect the ipaq is in range).

One thing very stupid is it always try to connect through gprs, but my mobile account do not have gprs service at all!

Could it be a flaw in Microsoft?

kkleung mentioned he use BT, how long had you been sync'ing with BT? I just worry after I invest a BT adapter on my notebook, then I found out it has exaclty same problem. I will be totally blown to find myself in that situation.

Hello folks
Same problem happened to my 6515, too, it stopped working after a few hours of work and did not come back since. I use a travel cable now which did not cause any problems to date.
