iPaq 6515, I want to Install USB Modem 2 surf the net, I have a GPRS enable SIM card, USB cardle & a laptop.

I want surf net in laptop using ipaq GPRS service through USB cable.

(I don't have bluetooth & don't want 2 use any wireless), pls give more sugestion.

I was using O2 minI its handy / beauiful comes with all the USB modem drivers, wireless dialer etc.

HP iPaq support in India is ZERO & Its OEM supplier HTC is not bothered to solve the issue. We regreat after buying this product & no support in total.

Same here. I am also from India and I am expecting much support. I think forums like this are gr8 place to learn about iPAQ etc.

BTW, if you find any solution for your problem do let me know. I am also looking for the same but could not find any solution as yet.

Which part of India are you from btw?

I am 4m Bangalore / Karnataka. We are managed to use bluetooth & using same. But the data transfer is not good. u can try me on "5131 - 2207"

I am from New Delhi. BTW, which provider are you using? I mean Idea, Hutch or Airtel etc? Does your provider support Edge?

hmmm . lot of india.. crowd here ... and 6515 users .., me is in delhi .. i am using hutch access to use the net directly on the 6515 right now ... if you really want a good connect on your laptop get Reliance Connect Card for the laptop ..

I use Airtel, yes they are providing Edge & also I am happy with surfing speed etc. Initialy I had problem searching on net etc..I am managing.

I have not tried GPRS in BLR do u have MAPs etc ru using the same ?

i am assuming you mean GPS ; there are a couple of people who have GPS maps for India ;; but v v v v v exp ; or eg someone offered me a delhi map for 10K Rs.

btw for delhi there is mapking.com ; who has a full street map with voice driving instructions ; and works perfectly ; the software + map its only for 30$

I have been using Reliance CDMA for about 10 months now. It works okay but if you use it between 5:30 pm. to 9:30 pm you will hardly get 2-3 KB which is lower than MTNL Dial-up

Anyway, I will (hopfuly) get my new Edge Connection by tommorrow and compare which is better CDMS or EDGE.

BTW sandyx, I would like to let you know that I have heard that Hutch Edge has known issues with 6515 PDA.

well , as far as i know the Hutch Edge is by Default enabled on the Access account ; and I have had no issues as such

What kind of speed are you getting? Does HUTCH works at same speed at all the times specially in the evening?

I have purchased Idea GPRS plan becuase the vendor from which I purchased he told me that I should not use Hutch as it doesn't work properly with Hutch.

well ; i havent done a speed check on the phone ; will do it and let u know ; as such i have not seen any speed diffrence when i am using the phone

Sandyx, have you checked the speed on Hutch Edge?
ipq6515, could you please tell me what is the average speed are you getting? Is Airtel 100% Edge?

I purchased Idea connection only for GPRS and believe me, this is one of the worse Cellular company in the world. They claim to be the first Edge enabled operator (way back in July, 2004) and still there towers are not edge compatible. They say that in CP they have Edge support but even in CP I get speed of 2-3 KB per second. Worse than a normal MTNL dial-up. Most of the time GPRS is not working. NEVER EVER BY IDEA. THEY ARE THE WORSE COMPANY IN THE WORLD.

I want to change the connection so any help in this regards is highly appreciated.

For my understanding, there is no option for USB modem at the moment, only DUN via BT

Hi! I have been trying this for quite some time. Broke my head with Orange engineers in Mumbai here. It apparantly requires some wireless modem to be activated from the Programs, and also requires us to install usbmodem.inf from the laptop. As orange claims that they have a solution, i am planning to drop into their office to get the same done.

If luck strikes, i shall keep you all posted.
