Soft resets...unexpected
I just joined this forum, thought I would contribute some things from my own experience and describe an ongoing issue that I would like to find a solution for...
I'm on my third unit, the first two being defective out of the box. Granted, I did purchase a "refurbished" unit, but the phone should work!
I have Delorme Street Atlas 2006 HH version...works fine with the 6515, but I know of at least two or three problems with their maps not being current. There is a bridge over a river nearby that was built at least 7 years ago...it's not on the map. Overall, I'm thrilled with the GPS function. I use it almost every week.
Camera sucks, but I think everyone knows that already.
Agile Messenger works great...
I use a bluetooth headset, and bluetooth activesync (although that is sometimes more work to connect and get working that just pulling the cable out of my briefcase...). I'm shopping for a bluetooth stereo headset... I do use the unit for playing MP3 files that I keep on an SD card. (found a 2GB card at Sam's Club for $63 the other day...)
I have a $40 PDA data package with Cingular. Direct Web access is usually slow, but I have found a few mobile formatted sites that are useful. I set up a POP3 email account and discovered the Soft reset problem...
... I am unable to leave the unit connected to GPRS (or allow it to automatically connect when needed) in order to routinely check for email. When I do, the unit will automatically do a soft reset when I turn it on, or I have even had to remove the battery to get it to come back on. That is a little scary, and I am glad to see my owner information appear each time. When I explicitly control the process of downloading email, I don't have the problem. Anyone have any ideas?
I still have occasional soft resets that don't have a simple explanation, but they seem to be tolerable. My only concern is if it is a symptom of a looming problem.
Oh, I did have another scare...turns out I had activated the sound recording button while on my belt...ran up 25MB of recorded audio that took all available memory. That does strange things, and I thought the unit was completely failing until I caught a quick message once that said I should reallocate storage memory...that was a hint that I followed to find the large audio file. This problem will not sneak up on you...if it happens the unit will not function and will repeatedly not want to reset or turn on. I was on the verge of doing a hard reset when I saw the error message. I am going to disable the recording program from the external button...I don't use that function much anyway.
Anyway, that's my forum data dump. If anyone has any thoughts on the GPRS/email reset problem, I'm all ears!
Thanks!
