hw6945 - services.exe / Sync issues

My 6945 has been working great for about 6-7 months. Until recently, it synced beautifully, was fairly responsive, etc.

Within the past few weeks, however, each time I hit the reset button (Soft Reboot) after the Today screen appears, there is an error for services.exe with the option to send to MS. Since this behavior began, I have not been able to perform a Sync.

The device is recognized in Device Manager, which means it must be connecting and picking up the device ID. It also appears in Explorer as a Mobile Device. However, when I try to expand that node on the tree, it doesn't show any folders, etc.

I have searched various resources online and have not been able to find this precise condition. I had thought about doing a "Hard Reset" to re-install WM 5.0. However, I am not sure how to do this if the device can't connect to the PC. Since the phone does work fine for calls, GPS, Email, etc. I am leary of doing anything that would leave me dead in the water for a day or two.

Anyone have suggestions?

A clean reset will return the Pocket PC to its factory settings and remove all your user files and any applications you've installed to it. No connection to ActiveSync is necessary:

1. Press and hold the ANSWER/SEND, POWER, and END CALL buttons.
2. While holding these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the RESET button on the bottom of the iPAQ until the device restarts.
3. When the iPAQ restarts, release all of the buttons, and then remove the stylus from the RESET button.

Is there a fix besides a Hard Reset?

I am having the same problem. I get the services.exe error and now I cannot sync.

Is there a solution other than a hard reset?

Julie-

Thanks for the instructions.

I use a 2GB mini SD card. I am going to transfer my personal files (ring tones, pictures, etc.) to the card and then hard-reset. The majority of my important info is in Outlook, which is useless without Activesync.

thus may be your problems
always try to keep files on your card ,maybe you are out of memory for clean operation of the device
if moving all files to card didn't helped then do hr
there is no need for reinstalling os or any rom update

make shure you refer all internet temp files to your card (also mail attachment)

I can't sync up also but I think it's because I had computer problems and had to reinstall outlook 2000 when I orriginally had 2003 on it. My other Ipaq's will sync, but not the 6945's. Do you need outlook 2003 to sync with wm5?
Thanks

What version of ActiveSync are you using? ActiveSync 4.2 can sync to Outlook , but ActiveSync 4.5 does not support Office 2000. At a minimum, you'd need to have Outlook 2003 installed on your computer if you are using Activesync 4.5.

Thanks
