After reading the other thread (
Original Post Herel), I'm convinced it's my headphone jack, also. The sound ONLY plays through the PPC (6945) when the phone rings (like it would when I've got bluetooth enabled or a headphone plugged in). But, I can't use the handset or the speaker phone function when talking on the phone. Further, the "speaker phone" button won't even switch to show it's on speaker phone.
So, I'm absolutely convinced it's not the amplifier (volume works great when the phone rings) or the software. That leaves almost nothing except the jack, and I really don't know jack!
I went to the HP website & got to their online chat only to be told that my now 14 month old expensive device is no longer covered by any kind of warrantee & it would cost $25 to continue the chat session. But, he was kind enough to tell me that I could call their tech support group (1-800-HP-INVENt) and they'd send a box for me to ship the product back for repair. He also was kind enough to tell me to call their billing dept (1-888-866-3292) to find out the possible charges. The charges, per the billing dept, are just under $150 to fix anything that does not involve replacement of either the motherboard or the display. To replace the motherboard (may have been EITHER mb or display) it will run just under $290. To also replace the display will run (if memory serves me correctly) about $450. The price includes shipping both directions and the shipping box which they will send to me. I called the Tech Support group who said they have to have the SERIAL # (from the Asset Viewer screen) & the Model # (only available after removing the battery and reading it from underneath the battery location). Per the billing guy, the Tech Support group will overnight a box with packing material to me, including a DHL shipping label. I'll pack up the PPC & call DHL for the pickup. HP will take a look at it, usually within 5 business days of receipt, and will call me with a cost to repair. They will then have it fixed & returned (either shipped or in my hands) within 3-5 business days AFTER the repair is paid for (faster if you use a cc & MUCH slower if you're mailing them a check).
Considering that I have no knowledge of what is needed to open up this machine, and I sure don't have the teeny-tiny little torx tool, and especially not the part to replace, it seems like I'm relegated to shipping it back to HP for the repair.
We leave San Antonio tomorrow (Tuesday afternoon) for 3 nights in Galveston & then 2 nights in Baton Rouge before returning home on Sunday, so I'm not going to do anything until we return. The unit works fine with Bluetooth, so I'll just take one of my ear pieces & charger so that I can use it if I need it.
If anyone has ANY suggestions, I'll be very appreciative!
Thanks!
David
