6925 ring tones

well..my best friend got fed up with me having a great phone(6515) so had to one up me and get the 6925(that bastard...)

so anyways, im showing him how to make an mp3 your ringtone just like my phone does it and for some reason it will not work. when you try and play the song in the sounds settings button it will not play, and when you go into the profiles button and play it, it plays the windows default ringtone.

is there a new trick with the new Windows mobile that has to be done to get the mp3 to play as the ringtone? Thanks!

ohh and PS: any way to get that new windows mobile OS on my 6515? i think it looks a hell of alot better then mine!

Doesn't it even list the mp3s as available ringtones? If it only plays the windows default ringtone, that means it is not picking up the songs.
Did you drop the mp3s in "My Documents" folder under his on-board memory? Even if you do the same on Storage Card it should still be available. Did you try the exact same mp3 file (to avoid bitrate/etc problems)

Where did he get his HP ? I see that cingular no longer lists them.

yeah its for cingular. but we just unlocked like we did my phone

he has it on his SD Card, but he right clicked it and did set as ringtone. that in turn copied it over to his //windows/rings folder and made it available as a ringtone. but for some reason it just won't let you play it and it won't work when someone calls.

does your work just fine? i might just tell him to do a hard reset and see if that helps his problems

I do not own it, but I fiddled with most of these before. Whenever I was setting up ringtone I was always working from the on board memory, so I can't really say anything on that. I normally always kept my ringtones etc, under my documents folder. I am not sure if hardreset will help, it might, but then again he will lose all customization on it. Maybe Julie can help you with this (I think she has it)

I can't compare how ringtones work on the hw6925 with the hw6515 because I've never had an hw6515.

This is how it works on my hw6925:

Select Settings > Ringtone icon - the Pocket PC will scan the Pocket PC and find all midi, wav, and mp3 files that could be used as ringtones that it finds in main memory and on the installed SD card. If the MP3 file is larger than 600KB, the pocket pc will not find it and you won't be able to use it as a ringtone.

Then you can assign the ringtone either to an individual contact or to all contacts:

Open the specific contact: Within the contacts application, tap Menu > Edit > tap the Ring tone field and choose the ring tone

or

Tap Start > Settings > Phone icon > Phone tab > tap the down arrow next to Ringtone field and choose ringtone.

wow 600kb max? that sucks! maybe its what the windows mobile 5 does now..

my 6515 i can use a 3.2mb mp3 for my ringtone and it works just fine. i guess since you can set rings to specific people it has to cut down on the size as to not overstuff the built in storage.

thanks for the help guys!
