Exiting Programs - 6945

I've found that when I "X" out of programs in my 6945, they are still running in the background. The way I know this is because it doesn't release the memory & when I check the "Programs Running" in the memory section of my settings, it shows the programs still running. This is quite a nuissance that I'd like to be able to solve. I have gotten in the habit (only had it about a week) of going to the "Programs Running" page and stopping all running programs, just to conserve memory.

Is there a fix for this?

There is no "fix" for it because it is a "feature" of pocket pcs. A feature that is annoying to many of us. You can installed a task manager that will help you close applications. I use Magic Button - it's free and can be downloaded here:

PocketPCFreeware : Magic Button 2.0

Julie, THANK YOU for the info. I'm definitely going to download & install that within the next couple of days. I've already picked your brain by browsing your PDA & found that I really like the Agenda Fusion 8 and the ListPro software packages. See, you've already helped me before you even answered my question!!! I've quickly read the info on the link & am going to download it now. I'll install it tomorrow because my head is out of it due to a sinus infection (shame we don't have a ppc-to-brain connection so that I could delete THAT from my cpu!). Again, thanks for the response!

Magic Button is a good suggestion.

I tried it for a while, but found I like to leave things running most of the time. Sometimes I do want to clear memory because it is filling up, so I use CloseAll:

TascalSoft - CloseAll Pocket PC

This closes all the running programs.

I use a program called HandySwitcher made by Dinarsoft. Works well for my needs. :)

I have been using Magic Button for a little while, now. It does work like I want it to, but occasionally does some strange stuff. But, I just do a soft reboot & it seems to work ok.

Strange stuff (he says)?

Well, occasionally, it won't close out the phone app, and it won't close out the Programs or Settings windows accessed thru the Start Menu. Makes it impossible to get back to the Today screen (My start menu - by my design - now only has 3 options: Today, Programs, & Settings. Everything else is on my desktop thanks to Resco File Explorer). So, I do a soft reboot & it works just fine.

Oh, & there is one other thing. Occasionally, upon restarting after a soft reboot, the Magic Button application gives an error & won't start. The error is something like "Can not find application for shortcut mbutton.lnk" or "Cannot find application mbutton.exe" I'm thinking that the unit just hasn't booted up enough to run the link/application from my Startup folder, so I do it manually & it works ok. Maybe there's something else I should do to make it work ALL the time. But, I don't have a problem with manually starting it - as long as I can see the error message & KNOW that it didn't start. Now, if it quits giving the error message when it doesn't start, I'm going to be thinking it started & will then have to adjust later one.

Personally, I like having my applications closed all the time & only open when I need them. Seems to me a better way of preventing things from becoming corrupted and having the system operate with more memory available. But, that's just me.

Spb Pocket Plus is a terrific program for you to consider using. It is one of the first applications I add to every device I get.
