Hi,

I just bought an used HW6925 from ebay and its currently locked to Cingular and anybody knows how to remove the sim lock so I can use it with Rogers up here in Canada?

I have asked the seller and he seems only deal with used device and doesn't provide unlocking service.

Anyone knows please help!

Thank you in adavance.

I'm pretty sure you have to run some software on it to unlock it. I've never tried it, but that's pretty much what I've gathered from reading some posts. You may want to Google for something like "Unlock 6925" or other relevant terms. Cast a wide net & see what you find. Someone else here may have a more specific answer. Good luck!

Now that breakfast is over, I just did a quick Google as I previously mentioned, & there are a great # of sites that will remotely unlock your 6925. I know nothing about these services, how they work, or anything. I can't even say that the 6925 will work with your service up there (Canada), but it should work with any GSM service if you install the SIM card. Prices vary from $25 to $35, depending on who you choose to use. If you dig deeper, you may be able to find some other way to do it. It looks like they need the "IMEI" from your phone to generate the code to unlock it. Not sure if you'd be able to generate it with the right software, or even if you can get the software. The ones I saw were all done remotely. I'd guess the software itself isn't so easy to get, or everyone would be doing it & nobody would make any money on it.

Good luck!

DarkFlame,

Thanks for your reply!

Actually I found those info on the web too but I was told that there is a limited of 5 attempts for the sim unlock and after that the phone will lock itself up so I just want to make sure I find the right people that can really unlock it without trouble.

I don't mind paying $30 or $40 for the service as long as its works but even with a lot of those unlocker provides money back guarantee I don't want to locking the phone up after several unsuccessful attempts.

Here is one that I found and they did mentioned about the limit on the numbers of attempt before it will lock up:

Remote Unlocking By IMEI for Cingular HP iPAQ HW6920 / HW6925

Anyone know so of someone reliable and known can able to unlock the 6926 successfully please let me know, I really appreciate that!

Thank you all and have a great day!:)

Thanks for your post!

I was told the HW69xx series only allow certain numbers of tries and I would like to find someone that is reliable and proven can provide working code otherwise I don't want to lock my phone up by using incorrect code.

If someone knows any company or store that have proven able to unlock the 6900 series please post.

Thank you all again!

I had my Cingular sim (actually my wife's) & I managed to get that locked up pretty badly. I took the thing down to the Cingluar store & they unlocked it for me in 5 seconds at no charge. I also had them sell me a new sim for the phone I was replacing with the 6945. That should have cost $24.95 (USD), but because I work for AT&T, the guy was generous & let me have it for free. That also took about 10 seconds for him to pull the card, program the sim, punch the sim out of the card, & then hand it back to me. I really had the phone completely hosed up. And, I'm certain that there's a way to fix the 6925 if it does get locked up. I'd guess the technical support at either Cingular or HP would be able to assist you with that. And, maybe, a hard reset would do it.

Still, you're wise to have done the research & look for someone who will be able to help you with confidence. I'd suggest calling both Cingular and HP to see what they have to say about un-hosing it if it does get completely hosed up. It may be as simple as what I had happen to the cell phones I was using with April's sim, and simply required a mfgr's code to unlock it again, even after me "fixing" it so that it wouldn't do anything but turn on & not accept any of the keystrokes I was trying to enter.

Good luck. When you do get it figured out & working, I'd like to hear about the process & the results.

HI DarkFlame,

Thanks for your suggestion and sharing your scenario!

I guess Cingular won't entertain me because I'm not their customer (I use Rogers up here in Canada) and I bought the phone on ebay.

I will doing a little more research and make sure the unlocker is really able to perform the work with proven track record because of my concern about locking the phone up and turn it into a paper weight.

I will definitely post result afterwards.

Thanks for all your help and courage I really appreciate that!

btw, how did you / your wife like your 6900 series is it a big improvement over the windows mobile 2003?

I have used WM3 before and always worried about losing all my data if my battery ran out of juice and I think with the WM5 you need not to worry about the battery issue.

Thanks again

Cheers:)

Noyu,

This is my first real device, other than a simple cell phone. I went from the dinasaur of a paper muncher - my Day Runner (I used two of them until they were FUBAR), to the 6945. So, I can't comment about improvements over other OSs or models.

Right out of the box, it's ok. Nothing I was thrilled with after using it for a few days. But, with tweaks & software, I've turned it into the tool that I really need. Part of that was Ilium's List Pro, and the Agenda Fusion 8 software. And, I found a way to allow saves from within software below the first level of folders (apparently a "feature" in WM5 but a "bug" if you ask me!). And, I'm learning how to use the tool to my best advantage.

Also, I did have a problem with the battery running dead in less than a day - that's even WITH the heavy-duty extended-use battery! But, when I found the tweak that forces Active Sync to stay turned off instead of automatically starting throughout the day, I can now go 3-4 days without having to recharge it.

Plus, I'm using a 2 gb mini-SD card instead of the 512 mb that HP says is the max this thing can recognize. & software that will backup my files from the storage card (which Active Sync won't do). Plus, Magic Button that causes applications to actually shut down when you "X" out of them rather than just being minimized (another "feature" that I consider a "bug").

Now, if I could just find a Bluetooth stereo headset WITH the built-in microphone so that I can listen to music & answer the phone while I'm on the motorcycle (& a mount for the handlebars), I'll be all set!

One other point to mention. You may be want to ask your own carrier if they can possibly unlock the 6925. That may be an option they can provide because they want to keep you as a customer. I'd think it to at least be worth a trip to one of their retail or service locations, or a phone call to them. But, they may not want to do that, out of "professional courtesy."

Hi DarkFlame,

Thanks for your post / tips!

I am still anxious to unlock this phone so I can try it out.

I like the ease of use on the Windows mobile when I was using the SX66 (still have) but I received a Nokia E61 during x'mas, although I like the form factor of the E61 but I just can't get use to the Symbian OS and from all my life been using PC the Windows Mobile seems familiar and really missed the touch screen from Windows Mobile device.

I am in sales and on the road quite a bit of time I need something with a thumb board so I can type quick notes if I have to while on the move (really shouldn't be doing while driving) but I needed it, while I'm sitting down at home or at the office I rather use the stylus to type.

Also, because of the limitation on third party software the Symbian OS can only do so much that's why I want to try out the HW6900 series.

Have you try the Microsoft voice commend on your phone?

I think its a great feature you can access to most of the apps / program using voice over than scroll through everything with the joystick or touch screen.

I really need to unlock the sim first but I rather do a little more scouting and want no mistake in the mean time I can still use the SX66 but since the E61 is so much lighter and thinner that's the one I am using until I've got the ipaq unlocked.

Cheers and have a great day my friend!:)

I've not used the voice command (yet), but I've only had the thing for about 6 weeks. There are some folks here (& other boards) that have used some of the voice command programs with apparently very good success, so I'm sure you can find something.

Also, there's some level of handwriting recognition, but I haven't been able to unlock that feature, either. There are other software programs that also do that, & other folks who've used them with apparently very good success, so that may be an option for you.

Finally, the input for both the stylus & keyboard offers some "intuitive" suggestions on what you're typing, but it's from within it's own stock static vocabulary and not of a dynamic nature. There is a program (not sure of the name, but can find it later if you like) that is way more intuitive & dynamic in that it learns your typing habits & adjusts it's suggestions to your personal patterns, supposedly immediately cutting down your keystrokes by 35% & eventually (as it learns & adapts to your writing) by 65%. So, that's an option you may want.

For me, were I in your shoes, I'd definitely want the voice recognition so that I could dictate to text from a hands-free mode.

And, tho I'm not sure about the 6925 (even tho the 6945 is the same machine just unlocked from HP - You MAY want to contact HP about getting it unlocked!), I was able to use the 6945 for everything but cell phone without installing a sim in it. So, you may be able to start tweaking it & installing software to make it do what you want even before you get it unlocked (assuming it isn't already hosed up).

And, you may want to check out "My PDA" as well as that of "Julie." I found Julie's to be MOST helpful in my own endeavors. In fact, I check them ALL out to see if there's anything else I'm missing that I might want/need. As for my own, it's probably not as up-to-date or as well organized as I'd like, but it does have some info.

Thanks for your post!

Actually, there are 4 or 5 vendors on ebay do unlock the iPAQ and I have emailed them all already but 3 out 5 already told me they can't find any code for me;one said its not on the server yet ( don't really understand what he said) and suggest me to try a few months later.

I have yet to hear back from the rest out of the 5, so at this stage no I can't find anybody can came up with an unlock code.:(

Hi noya,

I have similar problem. I bought hp6515a brand new from ebay. Unfortunately, no vendor could generate unlock code for me.

Anyway, I contact a vendor who unlocked palm treo 650 for me. He said "he could do it, but it will take him 7 to 10 days to generate unlock code, and it will cost around 40 US".

I am waiting for him to get back to me. If he is successfully generated unlock for me, I will let you know.

For further information you can e-mail me @ nalongtt2@gmail.com
