Just picked up new 2750...nice...some issues
Hi all. Well, I couldn't hold out any longer. I have now finally retired my 4155 (well not really, I will probably give it to my GF), and went full steam ahead and picked up a powerful 2750.

The form factor was a major decision as it is real close to being the size of my 4150 when in a Sena case. Since the 2750 has a flip cover (a nice one to boot), I don't think I will use a case for it (at least not for now).

All I have to say is damn this thing is fast!

One thing I have noticed...it seems that the fingerprint security software can only be accessed fresh after a hard reset. It seems though once I have finished loading it up with software, that the shortcut, control panel icon, and even .exe for the security fails to launch. Only after a hard reset can I actually launch the app. Last nite I made a full backup, did a hard reset, turned on security, then re-applied my backup and it was ok. I then turned off security and now I am no longer able to access the app.

EDIT: I seem to have corrected this issue. Apparently some software conflict was causing it. I removed cLaunch and am now using PocketPlus as my today launcher. Now, I am able to click and launch the security app.

I did get the BT memory error but it was corrected right after I did a soft reset. Not a real big issue but I hope HP corrects this in the next update.

Overall a real nice device and a worth (so far) successor to my 4155. So what that it doesn't have VGA - it's fast, compact, and probably one of the nicer looking of the latest batch of PPC's coming from HP.

I just ordered a couple of Pen/Stylus from PPCTechs that will fit into the 2750's silo. Always a nice option to have.

Congrats on your new Ipaq! I thought you would never let go of that 4150! What happened to the ASUS that you were thinking about? I saw the 2450 for the first time this past weekend @ CUSA and it was much smaller than I had pictured. The 128mb ram/speed must be real nice.

As you well know by know the 730w's battery life is atrocious. So, knowing that, I was on a quest for the next "smallest" PPC.

Yep, same here. I went to CUSA to check out the device. When I saw that it was not much bigger than my 4150 (and about the size of a 2200), I knew I had to get it. I just love having all that RAM and storage space!

Thanks Ted.

Yeah I was pretty hard on most of the new designs but then again most of PPC community has been critical of the designs coming out of HP.

In reading reviews of the 2000 series, I noticed that the consensus was that the 2000 series design was a "departure" from the latest round of boxy designs (ie. 4000, 1700, 3000 series).

The 2000 series is solid and elegant looking. It harkens back to the Jornada 560 series but in a much more classy and professional look.

Like I mentioned before the combination of size, memory capacity, and speed was the selling point which caused me to pull the trigger and pick one up.

Me too. I have a new one running JB, Pocket Plus, and some other stuff. So far it links right up on WiFi, but I do have the frequent lock up/soft reset issue. I just this hour turned on the Securit thing and have to get use to it. It's a major reason for the purchase. I also have only one SD card and that seems to be ok. I am interested in what the question is with the ROM upate. Is this all about getting a new music player or are there some substantial fixes due.

To be honest I am afraid I'll end up missing my 4155. I have passed it on to my son so I can be a bad father and get it back later.

OK, heres a problme I am having. Somethimes when I turn off the unit it looks like it goes into a dimmed backlight mode raterh that turn off. The screen is dark but you can just see the Today page. When you navigate through it still works which means it's on. If I keep turning it on and off it will eventually (2-3 times) shut off. Any ideas on this one? I can see battery run down from this.

If you hold down the off button for a couple of seconds it turns the backlight off - so you can just about see the screen - as you are experiencing.

If you quickly press the button it will turn the unit off

Thanks! Now we'll about the constant resetting problem. I know, I know... "the new rom will fix that!"

Which stylus did you order that fits?

PPCTechs have ones specifically for the 2000 series (they also are pens).

Thanks. I had one for my 4155 and the memory upgrade, which I highly recommend. Have you seen the thread on this case? I just ordered one.

I'm not real big on aluminum cases but this one looked sharp and was fairly inexpensive.

Must be nice. Only thing I ever won was a draft lottery in 1970.
