WM 5 Upgrade Success
Just thought I would post a success story on upgrading an hx2415 to WM5. I used the downloaded software and the install went well with a few hiccups. The first time through the wizard I was told that I had the wrong SKU (whatever that is) but trying again it worked fine after three hard resets after installation was completed. It is about as quick as it was with WM 2003 and my apps (Spb PocketPlus and Diary and E-Wallet) seem to be working without a problem. Wireless also is OK. So for those who are reluctant, take a shot after doing a full backup in case you want to revert to an earlier OS.

I bought a new ipaq 2790, so I do not need to upgrade, but just a quick question. Do you need to reload your programs after upgrade, or can you just load the new operating system over the old one. I was hoping that now that the software is saved in Rom, not ram, you could load a new operating system without loading the individual programs again.

Sorry I can't help because I'm not sure. I did a complete backup in case I needed to downgrade and then reinstalled all apps after the upgrade. If I were to guess I'd say that you need to reinstall - it seems likely that files are installed by an app into the windows subdirectory that will get overwritten by a new install. So be ready to reinstall if you need to do it.

You need to reinstall all your programs as it formates the unit when you upgrade and even downgrade.

yeah it completely flashes the ROM, therefore everything installed proir to the upgrade is erased. the same thing happens when u downgrade to WM 2003 SE also. the improvement with persistent memory is that when ur device runs out of battery completely, unlike earlier days, nothing is erased or deleted n once u charge ur device everything is back to normal.
if u perform a clean reset then all programs n databases r erased and the device returns to factory settings with only WM 5 installed on it.
