Can I disable/remove the WiFi icon on my Today screen under WM5
Hi there,

I have recently purchased an iPAQ hx2490 (after returning an rx1950), and at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, taking up valuable real estate on my Today screen is a WiFi launcher icon.

Is there a way to either relocate this icon elsewhere, or if not, remove it entirely?

I haven't found anything on this in the forums or Google, and am hoping someone may be able to help. It means I use about 40 pixels less height on PocketBreeze I am wondering if I have to do a registry hack, as there is nothing in the manual for this...

You can remove the links in the Windows/Startup folder so they don't start on reset. There are probably two files you will need to remove probably called WirelessIcon.lnk and BTTray.lnk. Remember that this area is the old tray relocated because of the buttons at the bottom. If you run anything which places anything into this tray it will reappear. Examples are Pocket Informant which when minimized places an icon here but there are also many other programs which will do so. Interestingly it appears that if you remove the shortcut so the area disappears if you run anything which will place an icon here causing it to reappear it will not resize the today screen automatically so the tray will cover up the bottom portion of PB instead of creating a scroll bar.

Thank you very much! That solution worked. Here's my summary:

Open File Explorer: Start -> Programs -> File Explorer

Navigate to My Device, then: My Device -> Windows -> StartUp

Highlight the file named "iPAQ Wireless" (tap and hold), select Cut, then either remove or Paste this to another folder.

Press the soft reset button, and it's gone!

Glad I could help. Remember though that the tray will reappear anytime something is placed in it.
