Saving to SD card and general memory management - how?
Prefacing this with the realization that I might actually be too thick to own an Ipaq, but I'm having a couple of problems. I was hoping someone here could help:

1. When synching files like music or photos, where does the Ipaq default to saving them, the "main" or onboard "storage card"? Does it matter?

2. When I look at the memory settings screen, it shows a scale with "storage" on one side and "program" on the other. There's a blue bar inside the scale and a pointer. Where can I find an explanation of this because it doesn't make much sense to me? The pointer and blue bar seem to change positions randomly and I haven't the foggiest idea what it all means.

3. I've been trying to save music to the Ipaq, in this case a podcast of about 55 Mb. It won't download during the synch process, presumably because the onboard card doesn't have enough memory to store it (see question 1). How can I force it to save to the SD card which has 250Mb left on a 256 card?

If this is only available on the CD that came with it, I'm screwed because it got lost in the house move. Help!!!

Thanks!

Activesync cannot synchronize data/ files to any memory other than the main memory of your device.

The slider bar allows you to adjust how much memory is used as storage or program memory. The OS adjusts this automatically based on how many programs you have installed and how many you have open and running.

See #1 above. You can't using active sync.

Invest in an inexpensive usb card reader and use file explorer to copy the file over to the SD card (it's much faster)

try mighysync it will let you sync a folder on you desk top witha folder on you ipaq or sd card

i prefer rubber stamped more friendly and work better but then again i never got mightsync to work

they are cheap and have trials so you can see what you like i liek useing it because i have the folder on my desktop and add music or delete it then when it syncs it will take care of that for me and sence i tend sync at night when im off for bed or just useing the computer it works well for me given the ipaq slow wright times to the sd card but i think rubberstamped might be a lil fast then the active sync software

also a note this is not a replacement program but a second program that runs on desktop only and uses the as connection

Windows Media Player and other programs can be set up to use either the SD or Storage card via ActiveSync. It will then auto sync when the Ipaq is plugged in to the USB or found via Bluetooth. For both music/photos use the Explore feature in ActiveSync to browse to the card and drag/drop from an open Windows file explorer window. Otherwise, use third party software.

JAx,
Thanks for that but I tried to drag and drop in both the Ipaq Explorer and my PC's file explorer. In both cases it wouldn't let me do it.

swhoutx035,
Thanks for those tips and the links. Very helpful. Curious, is it going to be cheaper or more convenient to get a Flash card usb reader or the software to do it during the synch up process? I've just gotten the TomTom navigator 5 which uses the SD slot, and I'll probably keep that in there most of the time, meaning the Flash has just become my predominant storage location.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, folks! Much appreciated!
