Mad Just dropped my hx2490b - cracked screen

I was running on my treadmill and my brand new 2490 flipped over and fell off.

I've dropped the device before. The aluminum case has always been able to protect it from damage. I also have an Axim X5, bought it when they first came out. Can't tell you how many times I dropped it. But again, I had an aluminum case for that one too.

The funny thing is, I think the aluminum case actually contributed to the damage. The cracks are on the right side of the screen. There are 3 little ones that radiate out from one point of origin and another long one that crosses the entire screen. The rubber side casing pulled away from the right side of the device, and of course, the aluminum case is bent out of shape. *I think* my device landed on the case door putting pressure on the right side of the device creating the cracks.

Anyhow, I guess it doesn't really matter how it happened. I just need to get it fixed. I don't know if HP repairs cracked screens, even with the extended warranty. They are absolutely insistent that I have never purchased an ipaq from them. Never mind that I still have the box with shipping stickers that my ipaq came in. Never mind that I have all my invoices and an AMEX statement.

It was never a pleasure dealing with Dell, but in the end I always got what I wanted from them. HP is impossible. I scanned everything I have regarding my ipaq purchase and emailed it to them. And still they say "We have no record of your purchase." I'm so annoyed. With myself and HP.

Thanks for letting me vent.

OH...the LCD is fine, no colors bleeding, touchscreen still responsive, except under the cracks. I didn't want to press too hard, and I assume that with broken glass the touchscreen would have trouble responding. I found a company in the UK that can replace it...for $135, better than buying a new device.

Yeah, I've been looking at the HP Bluetooth headphones for awhile. After buying a new wireless keyboard, 2 extra ipaq batteries, 8gb CF & 2gb SD cards, countless upgrades for wm5 software, I couldn't justify $50 for new headphones. After all my current headphones are < 6 months old and purchasing a new pair just because they had bluetooth would be silly, right?

I could have spent $50 and averted this whole disaster. Now, I have to spend $157.43 to fix it.

I'm sending my ipaq off on Monday for repair (I will post pixs of the cracked screen before I box it up).

I'm just glad the touchscreen still works. I've only had this ipaq for a few months and the idea of buying another makes me ill.

I will keep this post updated.
