Reviews of the hx2xxx series (21xx, 24xx, 27xx)

Considering buying an iPaq hx2410 or hx2750?

Have look at these reviews:

http://pdagold.com/articles/detail.asp?a=218

most of the reviews concern the 2750/2755 but they may apply to all 3 models.

note that the 2410/2415 has the best battery life among the three hx2xxx models. :)

Here's HP's own side-by-side comparison of the 3 models:

Please feel free to share your own personal reviews of these devices... choosing a PDA is not so easy these days. These comments really help.

Choosing a PDA is not easy at all, you got that right! I did countless research and found out that the hx2755 was the right choice!
I looked into all the new VGA models, the Loox 720 was my favorite but not for sale in the US.
So then my final choice was between the hx4700 and hx2755!
I spent 2 hours with both models at Compusa. The LARGE size, stupid touch pad, and not so cool 64 megs of RAM of the hx4700 made me want the hx2755 even more!

I'm just going to wait until HP comes out with a hx2755 like model that has a VGA screen. :)
Make the right choice get the hx2755!!! Good luck!!

Get the Loox 720!!! It isn't sold in the US but you can get it through UK distributors like Expansys.com.
Pros for Loox 720: VGA screen, USB host compatibility, 128 megs of Ram, 1.3 megapixel camera (kind of useless but nice to have), CF and SDIO slots, WiFi and BT, oh yeah...IT ALSO ISN'T PLAGUED WITH SOFTWARE PROBLEMS REQUIREING IT TO BE HARD RESETTED DAILY AND ISN'T NOT SUPPORTED BY IT'S MANUFACTURER WITH ROM UPDATES LIKE THE 2755!!!!
Just my opinion. I really wanted to go with the 2755 but after looking at all the software problem links on this site I think I've finally decided to go with the Loox 720. Yes it's a little more expensive but at least it works.

One thing I have to say in defense of HP is they are usually on the ball about ROM updates and fixes, which is more than I can say about some other vendors.

As for the Loox, it may be a great machine but: 1) I can't hold one in my hand before buying it and 2) if it's not an iPaq or Dell - good luck trying to get accessories for it.

Even better, good luck if you ever need to have it serviced for any reason.

Plus if you think the Loox is trouble free, you got another thing coming. The 2700 may be plagued with problems, but I guarantee many of them are software conflicts of application that ran fine on WM2003 and conflict with WM2003 SE.

For the record...I am not trying to insult anyone or beat up on their favorite PPC. All I am saying is that HP released a well designed PPC but as far as I am concerned they have dropped the ball...they have already released a ROM update, the only problem is according to the members of this forum it hasn't addressed half of the problems being experienced by 2750 owners. Also, the next ROM update, which was supposed to be released...well...now, has been postponed until April or May. Your right, I am sure the Loox 720 will have some problems of it's own but the forum that relates to it, FirstLoox.org doesn't consist of thread after thread of BT and WiFi problems nor does it contain Reply after Reply that end with "Come on ROM update," or "When is HP going to release a ROM update to resolve these problems."
My only point is that HP isn't the only PPC provider out there and if they are going to charge a pretty penny for a product and then not quickly address software issues that most of their customers are experiencing then they have lost my sale. And your right again, there aren't many accessories out for the Loox 720...of course that just means there are fewer frivilous things for me to buy. Fewer accessories also enhances the importance of the 720's USB host capabilities. I can plug ALMOST any USB device into the Loox giving me a whole crop of potential accessories from printers to mice.

You know. We're all going to have to re-do or update some evalutations of the hx2750 now that HP has fixed a bunch of the problems that initially shipped with the Rom Image v1.00.14. With it now being v1.10.09 and pretty stable so far, the only resets being 7 and caused by software saying "You need to reboot your computer to complete this install or backup", etc.

Originally, I had 143 soft-reboots over a two month span of time. We'll see how this one goes. Gotta love Tweaks2k2 for counting those for me. /grin/

I am interested if anyone else out there has a 2790 and what experiance they have had.

In November I took delivery of a 2790. Alas I have had nothing but problems...
The unit would get hot and I would find the unit discharged. When I contacted HP they were very helpful and said they would look at it and if there was a problem sort it out. They had the unit for almost 2 weeks and said they had found a problem with the motherboard and had replaced the offending item.

When the unit was delivered back to me it was running WM2003 and there was no longer any wifi connctivity. :bang:

I am now waiting for the unit to be sorted out.... I'm not sure what I think about HP and their products. I just hope others have had a more positive experiance?

hx2750 Ipaq

My 3 year old reliable dell axim's x3's wifi just died on me (socket not recognize unresolvable issue which no Dell or Ipaq user seems to be able to resolve from these blog forums) so I got lucky and found this iPAQ hx2755 floor model at circuit city for a mere $80. What a steal, everything works the only thing I did not get was the a/c adapter (I got the sync cradle) for which i purchased an authentic HP one from ebay for $15. I swore I would never buy any other PDA than a Dell Axim but this buy was too darn good to be true. I knew I would love the device since my sister has an iPAQ hx2415 (I set it up and she just uses it) for which the battery life is unbelievable (about 2x the life of my x3 wifi axim on the standard battery). Although I have not yet updated the ROM, the only thing I am disappointed in is that I seem not to be able to adjust the speed at which the processor runs so it must run at 624mhz all the time, which is not necessary and certainly affects the battery life expecially when matched against the slower but yet strong 524 mhz hx2415 battery life which seems to just last forever and ever.

But I love the dual card functionality (x3 axim only had one sd card slot) and i do believe the voice recording sound is superior to that of my x3's (although not as adjustable for sound quality and resulting file sizes), and yes even though it is a 624mhz processor the battery life is superior to my 400mhz dell.
