Contacts Problem(?) iPAQ hx2495b

I am having a problem(?) with the “Contacts” application. I will try to make the following example as concise as possible. When I go to “Contacts” and tap on the “rst” box , my “R” contacts appear. I then tap on a specific contact to view the details. I then tap “OK” to get back to my contacts list and then use the “Start” menu to go to the “Today” page. Next, I use the “Start” menu to return to “Contacts”. My list of contacts comes up at the very beginning of the list. If I then tap the “rst” box, my “S” contacts appear. I would expect that when I return to “Contacts” that the list would be at the point where I left it. Since it has returned to the very beginning of my list of contacts, at the very least I would expect that when I tap the “rst” box that my “R” contacts, not my “S” contacts would appear. If I go through this entire process another time, my “T” contacts appear. Is this the way that the “Contacts” application is supposed to work? My wife has an iPAQ 2215 and the “Contacts” application works differently. Whenever she taps “Contacts”, it goes back to the way that she left the list.

I think this is a unique "feature" (or quirk) of WM5.0. I just tried this on my rx1950 and got the same result as you. Haven't read of it before, didn't know about it until I read your post.

Probably not a "fix" for it. I do have a PIM application installed on this IPAQ and this behavior does not occur with that application - it behaves as expected - so it seems to be something in the contacts application. Does it help to know you're not alone?

Julie:
Thank you for taking the time to experiment with your rx1950. Knowing that I am not alone with a bum PPC is somewhat of a relief. Now I just have to put up with the mild aggravation of a quirky contacts application.

Rx1950-contacts

Heres the deal...my buddy gifted this pda to me....i reimaged the FIRMWARE and reset the ROM...low and behold his contacts are still there(i dont know how)....everything else reset except his contacts...

I want to banish his contacts and replace them with mine...i did the active sync and it says it has sync'd my contacts but his are still there....

funny thing is it looks like ipaq only syncs with "Outlook" contacts...my contacts in outlook dont match my contacts in windows address book...i thought they worked together...i guess not...is this the problem?

what do i do...any work-arounds?

Thanks :p

Have you performed a clean reset of the IPAQ? If your friend's contacts are still there, then you need to try it again:

Press and hold the Calendar and iPAQ Wireless buttons.

While holding down these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button on the left side of the HP iPAQ for about two seconds.

When the HP iPAQ screen begins to fade, release the Calendar and iPAQ Wireless buttons first, and then remove the stylus from the Reset button.

Plug the device into the AC Adapter or press the Reset button again.

Make sure you hold the keys down long enough to see the screen fade (some users have reported this was a problem for them).

ActiveSync will only sync items in the Outlook database. I don't think contacts in the windows address book are stored there.
