New GPS Problem

Everything's been going pretty good until now...

I have the HP Navteq GPS setup installed on the SD card and it's hanging.

I'll go a mile or two then the IPAQ just seems to get stuck. Occasionally if I wait a while it catches up but sometimes this can be 3 or 4 miles distance since it last responded. Sometimes it never resumes. I have to soft-reset.

Anyone else experience this and have any suggestions on what might cause this?

Thanks

Off the top of my head, how much main memory do you have available(storage and program) If you have lots of programs loaded there or haven't cleaned out the cache, etc, that could cause the hangup.

I try to have as little in my MM so that when I run large apps like my GPS it can operate smoothly.

I try to close all running programs before launching GPS. Right now Storage free = 78.25MB and Program free = 29.3MB

I have the Navteq program installed into main memory and the maps installed on the SD card.

Is that enough?

Thanks

30mbs should be more than enough to run GPS. I actually operate with less than that. It's unlikely, but do you have an option to install the GPS software to your File Store?

Failing that I would check with the company to see if they have any suggestions.

ok, thanks :-)

I also have a Hx2410 as a "backup" that I don't really use so I think I'll use it for GPS only. That should help.

There is a known issure with the new Navteq software and Ipaqs that causes the system to hang. Navteq has known about this since the October release of the new maps, but chose to release them anyway.

I've been working (harassing) them since October to fix the issue, but they keep putting me off. At this point, I am close to organizing a class action lawsuit against them for knowingly selling defective software.

Anyone who wishes to be involved or has additional comments please email me.
