Wisbar Advance 2, Hard Resets and how to waste a whole Sunday....
I have, in what little time I have, been trying in vain to get Wisbar Ad 2 to recogzine additional skin packages. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it (several times by differing methods) and restalled it. I have uninstalled/resintalled Juni's black and white theme which it the first one I tried to install.
I have done many, many soft resets.
My new unit is a 2790.
Questions:
1) Do you have any idea why it isn't recognizing the themes. I am putting them in Lakeridge/Wisbar Advance/themes
2) At this point I want to do a hard reset and start reinstalling everything but the 2790 doesn't seem to do a hard reset by the same method as my (very sadly) drowned hx4700. How do I do a hard reset on the 2790?
Sorry, can't help you out with the wisbar stuff, but I can help you out with the reset. What you need is a clean reset. To CLEAN reset your WM5.0 pocket pc:
1) Press and hold the Calendar button, the Power button, and the Messaging button.
2) While holding these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button on the bottom of the HP iPAQ.
3) When the Pocket PC screen begins to fade, release all of the buttons, and then remove the stylus from the Reset button.
The HP iPAQ restarts and powers on

That at least gives me somewhere to move on to. Hopefully a full reinstall will do it. If not I guess I have to start looking for an alternative to Wisbar. Wish I still had my 4700...
Thanks again..

im not quite sure why you think he need a clean reset?
either way, if you read the instructions in the skin package from juni (one of the best skinners of pocket pc out there), within the zip folder there are folders such as "black&white_wa2" or "ilauncher" or "weatherpanel" etc...
with wisbar, you would either put a skin (meaning the folder which contains all the skins picture files and sound files .. ie the black&white_wa2 folder) folder into the path in which you referenced \program files\lakeridge\wisbar adavnced\themes\, or you can put skin folders in a common folder "wa_skins" or whatever you feel is appropriate... on your sd card, for example. if you do the latter, you need to specify the path to that folder which contains additional skins, within the wisbar settings.
if you do choose to put skins in main storage (which i wouldnt recommend due to memory consumption), make sure your putting the folder, not just the files within the folder, in the appropriate directory within wisbar adavnced\themes or otherwise.
when im installing or removing skin files\folders, i conect the pocket pc to the cradle, wait for it to connect, and browse to my pocket pc through explorer within "my computer." this way its easy to drag and drop skin folders, or copy paste in the correct place. another way to do it would be to take out your sd card, and use a media card reader. and install the skin folder to a directory on the sd card, then either use that directory (as mentioned earlier .. ie wa_skins directory) or use the built in file explorer, resco file explorer, anton tomov virtual explorer, etc, to "move" the folder or cut\paste the folder to the default skin folder location @ \program files\lakeridge\wisbar advanced\themes\
if you need furthur assistance, and if yo uhave any specific questions, please let me know as ill try to help. also check out the lakeridge forums @ lakeridge.com. once you get wisbar up and running smooth, youll never go back :)
Thanks jdigitl,
I am pretty sure I'm putting the themes in the right place. When I select "Settings" from the Wisbar dropdown and up comes the "My Themes" with a selection of themes the Black & White theme is there. However when I select it and then tap the check mark it goes to a blue bar at the top instead of the Black and White theme bar. Another oddity is that when I explore with file explorer it shows the Merlin Theme in the Program Files/Lakeridge/Themes folder as well but it doesn't show up at all in the Settings/My themes of Wisbar. It is rather bizzare. I have owned several Ipaqs and thought I had figured out most of these little oddities but this one is stumping me so far. I figure there is a corrupt file somewhere and that is why I first uninstalled and reinstalled the program and data files involved and finally tried a hard reset all to no avail. My unit seems to be working well in all other respects so I don't really want to attempt a OS reinstall.
The only thing I can think to do now is to try installing the themes on one of my storage cards and see if that works. Any other suggestions?
Thanks
Archie
geese, that is weird. make sure you have them most up to date version of wisbar... make sure youre using the appropriate skin file for your device (ie vga vs qvga). i would download some other skins and try them out. check out lakeridge forums and sbsh forums to download some awsome skins. also zombienexus is my other fave...
"install" some other skins, set an additional path for the skins within the wisbar settings and install some there as well. test back and fourth between skins and their respective locations to see if you can pinpoint the problem, weather its an issue with the juni suite, or wisbar or your device/storage (unlikely, but could be)
