Here is what going on I have a 2795b, I have a 4gb SD card and have recently set up the security fingerprint reader.
I've also updated the ROM
The problem is pertaining to the machine turning on every 15-20 minutes or so automatically, prompting me to use the security feature. I have called tech support.
Basically they re did the ROM again and we unchecked a box in the lock section of the security system.
Does anyone know why the machine is turning on for no apparent reason.
I have also read several threads from users who could not get into their IPAQs and had to perform a clean reset, losing all their data, in order to gain access to their IPAQs. If it were me, I would avoid using HP Protect Tools altogether, or at the very least, I would make sure I regularly backed up my IPAQ to an SD card (copying the backup file to my computer regularly) just in case I had to perform a clean reset.

That thread was great, I thought i was going crazy diagnosing each problem. Actually, before I read the thread I disengaged the security feature and walla no turning on, as everyone has experienced within the thread. I also am not sending my unit in. I'm hoping this issue will get resolved from HP.
Until now I will not use the security feature. But do agree with Rich paying money for something to work and it should or be compensated somehow.
Received the unit from repair and the same problem occured, However I, fixed it by following professor Jullie's explanation of making a dummy server, and putting the Automatic Sync to Manual Sync. This so far has corrected the problem, the issue is with Automatic Sync.
So, now let me ask I'm guessing when you place the unit on the cradle to sync with the computer you have to manually open up sync to get the unit to connect to the computer.
And will the sync stop running when I take the unit off the cradle?
In the cradle and attached to the desktop computer, the desktop's version of ActiveSync controls the synching. So if you've got the setting in the desktop ActiveSync to sync automatically upon connection, that's what it will do. Out of the cradle, the IPAQ's ActiveSync settings control the synching.
Removing the IPAQ from the cradle should stop ActiveSync from synching, but ActiveSync will still be running in the background. It is a good idea to close ActiveSync by tapping the memory icon > running programs tab and STOP button.

The past 24 hrs I have been monitoring the unit. What I've noticed is that after I set up the dummy server and put up the sync to manual, the machine will turn on after I have turned it on. As if the active sync resets itself
So I have to into memory and running programs and active sync is not their, but if I go into settings and memory then running programs active sync is their and then I have to press stop.
Why the glitch.
Currently I'm on active sync 4.1 I will downloading 4.2 later on and hopefully that wont occur any more, not sure why the active sync just resets itselfs.
The security system that you downloaded where you tap different points on the screen, did you have to purchase it or was it free and is it effective?

The security software I use, Viskey, is quite good and works very well. It costs $15.00. Unfortunately, it is not yet compatible with WM5.0, but I think the developer has plans to make it so.

When you set ActiveSync to manual, there's a place on that screen that has a check mark next to "automatically send items" (or something like that), go back to that screen and remove that check mark and see if that makes a difference.
ActiveSync is quite tenacious, isn't it?

The problem I've read about with using the HP security feature is that it causes the Pocket pc to turn on automatically to encrypt the data (or something like that). I don't think activating the protection is an issue, but the turning on automatically in regular intervals is what diminishes the battery life.

I had similar problem. Combination of checking "manual" on Active Sync" and also making sure that my e-mail client was not set up to check e-mail every 15 minutes (defalt) seems to have fixed the issue.
