hx4700 UK Price
Its on the UK Expansys site at £497.95. Now I knew it would be pricey but this is ridiculous. The Toshiba E800 sells for £317 on the same site.

So are HP expecting us to pay an extra £180 over the Toshiba for just a faster processor. Correct me if I'm wrong but there doesnt seem to be anything dramatically different between the two apart from processors. Especially now Toshiba offer a SE upgrade for the OS.

In most everyday apps you wont even need the extra processing power. It becomes useful for things like games, emulation, video playing, etc. Now this device is being targeted at business people so the extra price seems even less relevant.

Even the rx3710 is on the Expansys site for £397. Thats £80 more than the Toshiba E800 for :

1. Less Processing power
2. Lower res and smaller screen
3. A camera

Oh wow, an extra £80 for that !

HP are having a laugh in my opinion. Considering Toshiba also show better support for their PDA (the SE Upgrade !), I certainly wont be buying HP.

Well, that means that they are expecting UK users to spend nearly 1000 US for a 4700.

Wow.

At that price you could buy a fully kitted out Jackito!

Seriously, I have to assume that prices will drop once the "New Product" hubbub dies down...but then you never know. HP seems to have gone insane of late, so I am awaiting their announcement that they ditching WM 2003 SE for a propriatary OS called Commadore 64 Mobile.

Yeah HP are treading on thin Ice, They wont get away with sh**ing on everyone with the upgrade then trying to rip everyone of on the price of a new ipaq, please everyone vote with your feet and hold back on getting the latest and greatest until they cut the price, The HX is awsome but if we buy it at the current price next time there is a new model we might have to remortgage (j/k) seriously you could get a decent laptop or tablet pocket pc running linux for a hell of alot less.

I agree with their decision concerning SE...however their current stance towards HP user sites and orgainizations is harder to figure. Coupled with very high prices on the new models makes one wonder if they listened to all that PDAs are Dead nonsense and are viewing the non-smartphone models (that is, all but the h63xx) as the first stage of an exit strategy.

Odd.

Odd.

As difficult and eccentric as HP is behaving I hope that they are not in the phase of phasing out. I don't like the prices either. I look at what I paid for my HP 2215 and what they go for now and it appears as though they have learned from the Microsoft school of brand/release control. They have cornered the Pocket PC market, and word is that they are at close to 32% of the PDA market overall. This is dangerous for consumers as HP can behave erratically and with malice with very little consumer recourse. The products are better than the competitors generally and they know this. I doubt that the technology upgrade really justifies the stiff price. However, I suspect the first year of release is also to recoop the R&D and realization investment. Even so, the price is dangerously close to Laptop prices.

Hi group. I am new. I am a recent Sony Clie NX70 and 80 converter. I pulled out of the Sony and Palm market as fast as I could.

I then bought a Axim X30 high and kept for three days. I sold it and lost about 50 dollars total in the deal. I sold it because comming from the high resolutoin (HVGA) land of Sony, I could not bear to look at that QVGA screen. Every time I powered up the washed out custom today screen on the Axim, I just kept thinking I don't want this.

So, I am a yuppie who has preordered the IPAQ VGA HX4705. I am sorry, it is people like me that fuel the HP D$#K-heads.

Look at my track record of a new PDA per year NX70 (599.00) sold for 300, NX80 (599.00) sold for 300, Axim X30 (300.00) sold for 365 + extra crap.

I think I need help

I am no stranger to shelling out so much money for a PDA. I would have kept the NX80 if sony did not ditch us.

Welcome to ipaqhq. As for buying an hx4700, I feel your pain and like you, when the end of the year rolls around I will be buying one no matter what the price. I'm just that way.

I also adore the hi-res screens that were previously Palm-only territory and still use PalmOS devices for business. (T|E for the moment with a T|C and a TH-55 joining the collection soon). Hopefully when the hi-res iPaqs get into more people's hands we will see the end of the 240x320 screen for good.

I am fairly new to the PDA world and I would like to see lower prices, but the prices on the new units are not that different than the old units are they? I see the price on a 5555 model is still $650 which is the same price as the 4705. And tre 4705 has more Memory and CPU.

Idealy I wanted the ipaq phone, but it is not available for my carrier. I know it is $600, but sprint wants $650 for the Hitatchi G1000 that is pocket pc 2002 OS and alot bulkier.

I bought a refurbished 5555 about a month ago. With the new models out, I looked on ebay to see the going prices. Figure I can get close to what I paid, and pay about $100 more and get the new model. New model has larger battery and also compact flash slot. But I am in not too much of a hurry, I would like to hear any downside with the new models.

HP Pricing
just in reply to the very first post about the £500 ish price of the hx4700, perhaps you should shop around before complaining about price? it is £440-£460 on almost every other website and is current £403 INCLUDING VAT on www.dabs.com (quicklinx 380L) so perhaps you should just be blaming expansys for making a wild profit rather than HP?

Just curious, why would you have lost any money if Dell has a 30 day money back return policy? You only had the item for 3 days. Am I missing something?

impatient, so I bought it off of Ebay. That seller had a no return policy.

No HP is slapping my impatient face.
