Where's the record button
There are two mentions in the specs of a voice record button, but it's not in the diagram. Has anyone seen a review that mentions the voice record button. If so, please post link in this thread.

If you are speaking of the h2210/5 there is no record button. To have a record button you will have to map one of your hardware buttons for that.

In a few reviews this was one of the few negative things that was mentioned regarding HP's decision to exclude a record button on the device.

That's weird, Ed. Never really thought of it before but you're right - the record button is mentioned but not pictured.

Sorry Ted, I should have mentioned that I was referring to the hx4700 specs.

I got attached to the record button on my HandEra 330, and was hoping to enjoy it on a Toshiba E740 I used briefly. The Toshiba record button would get depressed and start recording with only slight pressure. The battery would drain, and you know the rest ... ARRGGGH . So, I approach that particular feature with trepidation, but it would be nice to get back to using the recorder with the same ease as on the HandEra.

Ed,

Man I had forgot about the Handera 330! Man I lusted after that PDA. As a matter of fact I had just switched from a Palm 5x to the Ipaq 3600 when I saw the Handera and I told myself...."Self if Handera ever made a color PDA with a good screen I would go back to the Palm platform" Man whatever happened to them? They had a good product going for them. What became of them? Such promise......

HandEra got smart. They didn't have the deep pockets and couldn't compete, so they dropped out of the PDA business disappointing everyone who owned a 330. The 330 model remains the best PDA I've ever owned. If they had developed a color model, I would have snatched it up in a heartbeat.

And they're still in business. They're like BASF or other companies that develop the technology that goes into the products you buy. You may be using something of theirs and not even know it. Check this out. And this too. See if you recognize any of these names.

A guy named Levi headed west to find his fortune in gold, and ended up making it by sewing rivets on denim. John Sutter and James Marshall died bitter and penniless. It's the Levi's of the world who find their way.

Thanks for the conversation. It's occasionally nice to reminisce. Back to the present.

P.S. I still use my trusty 330.

Ed thanks for the information. Your right they have kept quite busy. That is a heck of a profile they have built up! Diverse and innovative. It is too bad they got out of the game. However, they were wise.

Thanks again man!

Ok, closer to the original question about where is the Record Button?
Where is the mic on the Hx4700/4705???
There is a small rectangle on the lower right front corner of the spec picture, but there is no description attached. Could this be the mic?
Ron...

That would be a cheap way of adding a "record button". That wouldn't technically be one. Plus, that's in a bad location (on the front). The side is more traditional for record buttons.

Software Question:
I have been looking at the Resco Record program. Has anyone here used it? What are your feelings? I really hate the included notes because you can't record while doing something else! Also, MP3 recording would be nice. Any thoughts? It is kind of expensive at $20! I might just buy the Media suite so I get explorer, record, picture viewer, and the keyboard. That's a good deal - I guess...

record button
Hi there,

I found my record button on the hx4700 on the left side above where the cover clips into the side.
It is a silver button with a little tape deck next to it.

Does anyone know if it is possible to make the button start a recording with one press, and finish with another....very hard to hold the button while driving, but I still want to make use of the feature when i just can scrawl anything down.

Cheers
Marko

yeah... I am confused here. The hx HAS a record button, and it is pretty obvious to find (left hand side, top corner, its the big fat rectangle silver thing in a sea of black and dark grey, its not hard to miss). Am I just totally missing something here?

Don't know how you can just tap the record button and keep recording, but you can tap the button and then tap the on screen button. The button is more flush with the device compared to other handhelds I've owned but it addresses the issue mentioned earlier about accidentally pressing the button and starting an unwanted recording. I have never accidentally recorded anything with my hx4705
