Color of the device?
I have seen a lot of pictures and some, like the one of me holding my iPaq in my avatar, show a dark gray or near black device. Then, I see some pictures which show a gray device like my 3800 series. All I know is that my 3800 series has scrapes of paint coming off and that is mainly because of the expansion packs. I hope they put some really strong paint on this new one!

Some people also said that they are really looking forward to the magnesium alloy case. What does that mean? What is the 3800's body made of? Thanks.

Well I too have seen different shades of the device. Early on during the rumor days (July) the leaks were indicating Titanium, and now we know it is Magnesium.

I believe the 3800 was a rigid Plastic with Metallic coating. The advantage of Magnesium is that it is light, sturdy, and more solid. This is a plus to those who have had problems with plastics and stuff. I was hoping they didn't paint it at all and that it would be polished Magnesium. My hope only.

In response to my earlier post here is a picture.

Ipaq light color Hyperlink here!

Click on the picture in the upper left of the screen to see the light color.

That may be true, but if you click Slideshow on that same page, you get this
http://www.pcmag.com/slideshow_viewe...o=1&i=1,00.asp
which shows a really dark colored iPaq! I think I like the dark colored iPaq better. I don't think that is the real one though.

Added: It is really scary because if you continue the slideshow, you see PocketTV and it is how I figured it would be, everything looks the same size. The top bar, the bottom bar, etc. I was hoping it would all be smaller because of the higher resolution!

If you go to the business section of HP.com, then you'll notice that they show the HX4700 and it is a dark gray color, while the HX4705 under the home section is a light gray color. I prefer the dark color because it looks nicer. Although, I may not agree when I see them in person. I wonder if I should cancel and get the HX4700? I wonder if Rome would give me the same price? I don't think I will, but I kind of prefer the darker color...

Now I'm really confused! On the homepage of HP's website, if you keep refreshing it, you will find a Mobility picture in Red. If you follow that link, you will arrive here
http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/fe...txb=B1&mtxl=L1
and then, if you scroll down, it shows the HX4705, but it is dark! It is on their own website in TWO colors!

Right under the photo it says HX4700 not 4705. I think its been hashed and rehased. black = 4700 business class, silver/gray = 4705 consumer.

I canceled my eCost order and ordered the HX4700 from Buy.com for around $580 and I really think it is a darker color than the HX4705 because of this link:

What do you mean by a "computer mockup"? Are you suggesting that the photos were colored on a computer? Anyway, if there is a dark black one available, there is reason to believe that it is the HX4700. Therefore, I ordered that one. If they are both the lighter color, then I won't mind because it is all that is available.

benn600,
I also have been wondering about if there is a different color for the Hx4700 vs Hx4705. I think the darker pictures look better as well. I personally believe its just different shading with the photos and they are really the same.
I hope you'll post the answer either way when you get your Hx4700. For now I'm sticking with eCost - but that could change if someone else get it in stock sooner than eCost.
Ron...

Yeah, I dont care what color. I mean that the black was a computer generated image from a while ago made by HP for internal use. ie... like a virtaul tour of a home before it is built

I have seen photos that were reported a few months ago as just that and they were black. In that set were all the black ones I have seen. All the C.G. picks were black.

Does this mean its not black? No. It means we are all speculating until it comes out.
