That is a good price, but remember that you can get it for about $585 from eCost if you go through Rome. Browse the HX4705 forums for the info on how to do this. ($580 + handling + free ground shipping or $10 overnight - I got free ground).

but if you live in california you have to pay tax and all that good stuff, so the total comes to $640 for eCost. If this place has no tax and a good record it could save some money for us californians.

If any of you peeps work for big companies, see if they have an EPP (employee purchase program) agreement with HP. I work for a major Aerospace company in California and we have an EPP with HP (and Dell, Microsoft, and a host of others). I can get any HP products for about 10% off the retail price.

We got Office 2003 Pro last year for $19.99!

If anyone is looking for a more reliable place to preorder the 4705 it appeared at J & R for preorder today at @$650.

Their website is www.jr.com. There is no word yet if it will be an internet only item or if it will be available in the store in Manhatten.

We shall see.

datavision is a great store

i live only a few avenues away from the store in manhattan. i would say that their stuff is a bit pricier than other stores however they are a legit store

in regards to pre-ordering, i don't know how reliable they are in terms of getting stock in on time compared to an ecost, so you're on your own there, but like i said, they are a legit store

I would check to see if they are an HP authorized store; if you are concerned about warranty issues. Also, eCost is part of the zones.com group (Maczone, PCzone) so they are likely to get a significant number of units to sell at first. Whereas Datavision may not get so many up front or as soon as the larger companies. Anyway, just a thought. I would bet HP will have plenty available when the time comes.
As a last thought, if you had order problems, I know the Zones folks are pretty good with customer service; not sure about Datavision. Maybe bizrate.com has some info on them?

Looks like they got 50% happy, 25% neutral, and 25% unhappy with a below average customer service record... That is with 500 reviewers.
eCost has 50,000+ reviewers and 90% happy, 4% neutral, 6% negative.
I think the few bucks savings is not worth a possible nightmare purchase... IMHO

Since I have delt with JR.com before, I decided to call them and see if they would pricematch Datavision. They did with no questions asked. He just verified the price + shipping. So I ended up paying $604.00 shipped. This is a pretty good price for us California people. JR also sells through Amazon, so they must be a decent company.
