You will all want to lay down or something for this one. I just called eCost. They delayed shippments on the HX4705 until october 4!!!! That is WAY to long!! It's worse than HP! That doesn't make sense that it is that far off! I cannot believe it - they actually did what that person said, they say it will be in soon so people will order and then they back up the date!

Nope... A typo on my part. The smile is the other way around; the colon comes before the parenthesis.

Did you talk to Rome on this one? I am disappointed as well. I will more than likely cancel my order, and hookup with my friend who works at HP and get it in September when HPSHOPPING.COM is due to get it. Man this is a big disappointment.

He said they show the availability date for the Hx4705 as Oct 4th.

Well, that's not good at all. I held off after my PDA got stolen in May, played around with Dell's and Ipaq's, really liked the quality of the Ipaq and was looking forward to the 4705...but I don't think I can wait till Oct. 4th. I use my PDA for business and when I don't have one it causes a serious hardship (it's a real PITA to lug around my laptop everywhere and have to boot it up everytime I make a new appointment or schedule customers in my business which happens many times a day - and if I don't have a laptop is scraps of paper but doesn't help me to figure out the scheduling of meetings and appointments)...I might end up having to get a Dell <sigh>.

HP IMO is making a serious mistake by doing this - they are going to pi*s off a lot of people...

HPSHOPPING is showing September 4th as the availability date. However, I read on another thread that HP hasn't received FCC approval or something that the file is relatively new. I will investigate.

This is very disappointing. I keep wishing that I would get it but it look like I'll have to wait a long time now. I don't plan on canceling my order simply because I won't settle for a lower end ipaq or different brand - ever. There is no chance I would buy another pda. The HX4705 is the one I'm getting. It is dumb though - why can't HP just put other manufacturing jobs on hold and all they have to do is make a few hundred of them. Then, at least the people who ordered early would be happy! Maybe they already have hundreds but they just don't want to send some to one company and not any others. I wonder if they knew all along that they wouldn't be delivered until Oct. 4, but they just didn't tell anyone, like someone else said in a post I read a while back.

OK, that does suck... I am waiting too. I wonder if eCost was taking it on the chin with the good price and this is their way of getting folks to cancel? Why would they be behind shipping dates? They are a large company and are supposidly HP certified. Are we sure that anyone is getting them before October?
Friday (and today), I called Rome and emailed him to change my shipping address and I haven't heard from him. I hope eCost isn't getting flakey all of a sudden... I will try to wait out the storm, but if someone else carries it sooner for about the same price, I will have to go with them.... :-(

I would go to best buy and buy a 4155 with a service plan then when the new ones ship you get jumper cables and a couple of paper clips and short your unit out. They generally let you upgrade if you are willing to pay the difference. Do not get the dell, the iPAQ is quite a deal better.
