Ship Delay for HX4705. Still 9/9/04 for HPSHOPPING.COM

I just spoke to sources within HP and verified that HP will receive the HX4705 at the end of the month. That shipment would be available on line on 9/9/04.

So it looks like HPSHOPPING.COM will have them first. I gotta pull some strings to get this unit. I was hoping to take off work on 8/19/04 just to be home when my Ecost order got in........."It wasn't meant to be".

I hate to say it but I am not believing anything until I see it

If ecost has fallen through then rome just lost a major source for business as well as my order.

I think they should say that they don't know when they will get a product in. I hate it when I'm told something and then find out it has changed. I would much rather them say "I have no idea whatsoever" instead of "It will be in on the 18th" and then changing the date back over a month. Maybe they are going to move it from Oct. 4 up to Sept 8 - ? I wouldn't mind waiting until the beginning of Sept, but not the beginning of October. That is way too long. Well, we'll have to just wait and see what happens. I don't plan on canceling my order - I got too good of a deal. Besides, I have no real need for it right now - others may have more of a need. My "need" is more of a desire. In the thread I started about the late shippments, someone posted that they may be saying it will be later so that some people will cancel some of their orders. I don't quite understand why they gave a $50 discount to preorderers! You usually have to pay more to get a preorder put in! Thanks.

Yeah, I was speculating and venting... It doesn't make sense that HP will ship before a retailer. It makes me wonder about all sorts of reasons... But, bottom line is I either go to HP or wait for eCost. Problem is, I use mine daily at work. I thought going a couple weeks without my h5550 would be tough but liveable, but now, 6 to 8 weeks is stretching it.

We kinda had a feeling this would happen though. I guess we shouldn't be too shocked. It is a new product and eCost is a discounter of sorts.

Like I said, they probably pushed back the date to farther back than it really will be so people would cancel their orders. I understand what you mean by needing your iPaq. It really stinks that you're going to pay the $650 whether it comes today or in a month. Therefore, your money is sitting in HP's pocket, even though you haven't spent it yet or received it... It seems like iPaq's rarely go down in price and therefore, it is best to get an iPaq when it first comes out to get the "newest" device for the longest time. I bet that they are working on their next model and that is why this model is taking longer.

Besides, I doubt that HPshopping.com will get it first. If they do, then eCost will have it too. I assume that they will push up the date - like I was saying how I wished they would do that. I bet they will do that - not postive, but I'm kind of thinking that will happen. Does HP make one a day or something? Why is it taking them so long? I wish they would send me one personally. They probably have a huge warehouse with a bunch of them waiting to be sent but they want to send them to all the manufacturers at the same time. Or, maybe they noticed a problem at the last second and have to modify all the currently manufactured products! Maybe they have to update the ROM's on all the devices. AWhhh! I hope not! I'm going to bed now so I won't think about it...

Maybe the FCC approval is a snag? At any rate, I am going to wait until 09/09 and if HP has them and eCost doesn't, then I will change my mind...
The Asus MyPal A730 looks compelling though...

Proportable just updated the release dates for the A730, End of Sept. For the BT model and end of OCT. for the BT/WIFI Model. Looks like HP will get the jump on ASUS.

I think anyone who pre-ordered should take a wait and see attitude. Perhaps its a ploy to get cancellations but without someone actually shipping your just flayling about if you cancel now. Right now only one seller is still saying this month aug 26th, datavision. So if they actually ship and have stock I might change my order. Otherwise Im sitting on what I have until others are shipping.

I'm going to just sit as well. I don't want to pay anymore than $585. I would only pay a little more if I would get it like a month earlier, but not much. We'll just have to wait and see!

I got in the first day (7/20) at eCost at $563, so I guess I'm stuck with them.

I wish I would have got that price! I should ask Rome if he can give me that price without canceling my order. I don't think I will.... nevermind. I still doubt it will take them that long to get them in. I think they are just doing that so their customers are not mad again by them pushing back the date. I wish they would just push the date back like 5 days or something .. not 2 weeks, or 6 weeks like we have here!

Me too... I am waiting. I really CAN live for a month or so without. If my work was paying, I would change, but I am footing the bill... Hence, I wait. "It will all come out in the wash".

I bought my iPAQ 4350 from HP on the day it was released because no one else on the internet or retail location had it available. HP may get the 4700 first too since this one is also the top of the line of the new crop of devices. The nice thing about buying from HP is their 30-day no questions asked return policy and the 1 year no interest plan I used to buy the 4350. That and not having to pay tax was worth getting one of the very first production 4350 units in my hands.
