Windows 2003 SE Comparison
I noticed that on the new HP rz and rx series pda's, you will find Windows Mobile 2003 SE Professional. The HX4705, however comes with Windows Mobile 2003 SE Premium edition. What is the difference between Professional and Premium edition if any? I just figured that there was only one Windows Mobile 2003 SE and they just add Premium to all the pocket pc's titles so that consumers think it's the best os or something - just to grab attention. Now I see professional...?

I think the difference is more so with Outlook that comes bundled with the unit.

Professional Vs. Premium

Ever since Pocket PC 2002, there have been Professional and Premium versions. Professional is for Pocket PCs with ROM too small to hold Premium (or, I suppose, to save a little money).

The Professional version would not include some programs in ROM, like Terminal Services, Reader (although that may not even be in Premium now), MSN Messenger, the Word spell checker, etc. I don't know the exact list for WM 2003 SE.

In the past, most (if not all) of the programs left out of the ROM were available either on the CD or via download from Microsoft.

Not that I'm aware of.

When Pocket PC 2002 was released, it wouldn't fit into the 16 MB ROMs of existing iPAQs, so Microsoft created two versions -- Pocket PC 2002 Professional for upgrades and Pocket PC 2002 Premium for new devices.

However, some devices, like the iPAQ 1910, I think, actually shipped with Pocket PC 2002 Professional. This trend continued with Windows Mobile 2003 and now SE.
