CF card vs. SD card
I am planning to get either of these card for my HX4705.

I don't know which one is better to buy, the CF card or the SD card.

I want to get the 1 gig card and want it to be fast.

I am looking at the CF card 40X vs. a normal sandisk SD card. Which of these 2 would be faster?

I believe that the CF card 40X applies to the writing speed, which is ideal for SLR camera. However, I am not sure if it has fast reading speed also so that it could bring up information faster and hopefully play better videos.

Would the SD card also have fast speed? Which is faster?

I use a bog standard kingston 1gb CF card and its more than fast enough for playing videos, steer clear of sandisk they have a bad reputation

I have a Sandisk 512 SD card that works very well with the iPaq h5550. Maybe I got a good one, but it works well for playing MP3's and compressed DVD's as well as holding various applications and data.

I have three cards. They are all fast enough for anything. I use my 1-gig sd card (pqi) to store my applcations. I use my 2 gig sandisk cf card for media (movies, music, pictures, tv shows).

My latest card is a 5 gig ST1 drive by seagate (extracted quite painlessly from a carbon rio 5 gig). I *think* (but could be wrong) that it's 4200 rpm. Anyway, it also works fine for my movies, songs, and pictures. I've never had a speed problem with any of them.

What do you mean "extracted painfully"??? Please elaborate. Did you open a carbon and take it out? How do you get it to fit in an HX? Is it a CF drive or something? Please let me know....

painlessly
What I said was painlessly, not painfully. I basically used a screwdriver to pry it open.

A detailed guide is here:

I have a Sandisk 1GB in my h5555, it performs flawlessly. I just popped it into the hx4700, it's working fine. I prefer to use the smaller SD card slot for memory, and the CF slot for expansion, e.g. camera, GPS, etc.
