Comparison Table
I've been doing a lot of research into what will be my first PDA so I created a little table coving 5 VGA models that I know of. I'm hoping people will send me more info or corrections about any of the models for my benefit and to share with others. Nothing was taken for granted and all of the info is from the manufacturers' websites (exept the Dell X50). I think I have just about all the features covered, but I may be missing a few. Images of all the models and links to actual reviews are included. Enjoy.

I'll be glad when the x50 specs are no longer a rumor. Definitely won't make a purchase until that one is fully revealed. Could be a winner.

Nice comparisons! Thanks!

I agree as well. Although I can see the point that this is being sold as a "Business Class" machine. I for one am not in the least impressed with the idea of year old tech in a flagship device that is commanding a flagship price.

Very nice find. I think the Dell X50 is going to be a major player among the VGA PPCs. The specs that I have seen is outstanding and I am sure the price will beat out the rest. We shall see. In my estimation I like the Dell X50, then the Asus and the HX4705 coming in third. They are all nice devices.

Nice work - very useful...
I have one question. On HP4700 - CF Type 1 -- Doesn't all CF Type 2 also support the thinner CF Type 1 because of the wide and narrow parts on the Type 2 ?
Ron...

No personal experience on this HX4700 but I had the same question and what I read everything is identical and will work its just a skinny card in a thick slot.

In other words, the device can not tell if its type I or II as pinout is identical.

As for the rest of the stats and video chip, I have weighed this and I think it will fall in to two camps. Gamers and those who don't care so much about gaming but rather the utility purpose these devices were originally designed for. I am in the latter camp.

Magnesium case, LONG battery life, excellant processor and plenty of memory. I believe the memory config is for business users to store documents/info on it and they are provided ROM space for that.

In short, for light gaming and serious business utility hx4700/4705 is the clear winner.

If you are a hard core gamer, then look elsewhere.

If a device can handle CF type II, CF type I is inferred. I didn't list it because I couldn't find it on the manufacturer's site. I found it now thank to Duncan at firstloox.org. I've updated the table a little while ago for other fixes.

That's a good start. I think you should include a column for the Toshiba 830, though. It should be the replacement for the e800/805.

I also think you should fill in the Dell specs with the rumors (making sure to note they are rumors, perhaps with an asterisk next to items not taken from the manufacturer's site). For example, the high-end X50 is supposed to have 128 MB RAM and 128 MB ROM.

Finally, there is supposedly a model of the ASUS 730 with WiFi coming out later this year (or early next year). Maybe you need columns for both ASUS models (and other Dell models with VGA, too).

Hey, good table.

Everyone, don't forget about the table on www.firstloox.org
It is the first or second link at the top of the page.

Perhaps with both tables, we all can decide

thank for the table. considering the fact that dell is producing a budget-considerable product lines for pdas, i think the x50 is really going to be a challenger for all other vga devices. I myself have my eyes on the hx and the x50... and the asus one is not bad at all as well. time to dump my 2215 :P hehe
