Connecting to Airport extreme or express
Has anyone been able to connect to their airport with a 40 bit wep key? I am unable to surf, although it says that I am connected. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

I'm pretty sure it only supports 64 and 128 bit encription. Reason i say this is because i've never seen a wifi card with 40 bit support beside the airport line of 802.11x
I'll try it out on my AE base station tonight when i get home and post some results for you tomorrow.

I have the same problem. I've got an AirPort network at home with a PowerBook, and iMac and a pc laptop (with an Orinoco card) which works fine. My Hx4700 finds the network and says it's connected but the button stays amber. I cannot surf. The HP website and the User's guide don't cover this. I'd really appreciate some help. And yes my AirPort Base Station is on 40 bit WEP encryption too.

Thank you

i've got a cisco 1100 and it's running 40bit wep and i'm fine... are you putting in the right broadcast keys? also i doubt that the ppc will support broadcast key rotation (if enabled)

I've sorted it - it's not the Windows Mobile 2003SE or APB settings, they are idiot-proof, it's the stupid Hx4700. Just do a hard reset following the instructions in the Users' Guide to the letter, and turn on WiFi on the Hx4700, enter the key (ie. the password you used to update the ABS) and you should be surfing - if using Pocket IE can be called that). Of course you'll loose any data and programmes you've collected. And don't think backup will help - all restoration does is restore the problem.

That's why I use MAC address filtering instead of wep. Actually I am toying around with a freeradius server for authentication on my wireless networks.

i just bought an airport express and it seems to only support 128bit wep/wpa and no encryption... and yes, using the password you used when setting it up does the trick... is there another way of configuring this thing other than the stupid assistant program?

You can use the airport admin utility to configure Airport Express if I recall correctly.
