Microstor 2.2GB drive in hx4700
Hi,

I bought myself a 2.2G microstor drive......Has anyone else used these 'cos I am having a torrid time getting any sense out of it.

I turn the hx on and hear some whizzing, but then it doesnt recognise the drive....It did once but then nothing.

Any ideas?

Dude,
Take the Microstor drive back. If you do a search on the net, and in many forums, you'll find out about it's many problems and it's lack of support.

Get the IBM 1gb, or if you need more, Hitachi has a 2.0 and a 4.0, and Seagate will soon have a 5.0G out, all which are fully compatible and work well.

The 2gb is available at CompUSA for $129, the 4Gb for $179, the Seagate is due out REAL SOON.... For about $175 or so.

You must have a faulty one because mine works perfectly. Sometimes, very occaisionally I get "unrecognised card error in slot 1" but asoft reset fixes that.

You should NEVER get that message. It also draws a ton more power than the Seagate, Hitachi or IBM drives do. Also, the heat it generates can't be good for anything!

When I had 1, I copied about 1Gb of photos over and when I went to remove it, I physically burned my fingers on it.

Since name brand Microdrives have dropped in price, why get a far east knockoff that's not the most reliable of units?

Google this drive if you want tons more opinions that aren't exactly rosy..... For every "It works for me" you'll get about 50 just the opposite. That's not a good enough track record for MY data!

Your money, your data, you make the final choice!

This device seems to have problems with windows mobile 2003 & SE. My friend has one and it works fine on his DELL with 2002 but on my DELL with 2003 and my iPAQ with 2003 SE forget it, (timing problems). Get something else!

I've had that error with CF cards too and not just on this device. It doesnt get half as hot as the ipaq itself either and battery life is hardly affected. I also thought I'd read that Magicstor are re-branded Hitachi drives. There are a lot of people in the GPS world using them to store maps without problem. If mine falls over you can say "I told you so". At the moment I'm happy.

They are definitely NOT rebranded, that's the primary reason they can't use the name Microdrive. When you speak with their tech support, you will find it is not. They also don't provide REAL IDE mode either.

Also, anyone try to use 7Tools partition manager to fix this problem ? I know that any Hitachi MD's model higher than 43C cannot be used in PDA or DC.
