Price break on Microdrives
A quick update for those looking to purchase a microdrive/mini HD. CompUSA has the Hitachi 4GB on sale for $179 until 11/20 and Memory Suppliers has the Seagate 5GB ST1 for $249. www.memorysuppliers.com
I have two of the Hitachi's and love them. With the price break on the Seagate I'm seriously considering getting one of those too. Hope this helps.

Direct link to the Seagate 5GB ST1

You can never have enough space. Already I don't think the 5 gig is enough. I have so many encoded Divx movies and each one is over 1.3 gig (they are in 1500 kbit/sec rate or 2000 kbit/sec rate).

I wonder if the Seagate 5 gig is quieter than the Hitachi. It says that it uses less power, but what about the noise? I hate noise.

What effect do the microdrives have on battery life? Do they run them down faster? Just curious. I have a 1gb SD and 1gb CF, have been wondering how well the micordrives perform.

They do, however, most of the time it's imperceptible for normal, day to day, operations. Even running music doesn't seem to do much. I've run full length movies and the battery did seem to go down a little quicker than I thought it should, but again, it wasn't that bad.

CyberGuy,
I'm not sure if the Seagate uses less power, but it does sport a much larger buffer than the Hitachi.
