Problems establishing wireless connections
I am having problems establishing wireless connections to an office wireless access point. The access point has a standard SSID and uses WEP 126bit encryption. I've entered the SSID and the WEP key into the 4700.

On the CONFIGURE WIRELESS NETWORKS screen, I press the icon, and select CONNECT. The word "available" is now beside the SSID name on the screen, but it never actually connects.

Why doesn't it connect?

Thanks, Bob

You know, i've seen this happen to me several times. Mostly when connecting to different wireless networks in a small time span. I've found that if it wont connect and is putting up a fight with me, it usually think's its still connected to some other wireless network. So i tap+hold on that one and hit disconnect.. that usually gets it to clamp on. Failing that, I bring up the iPAQ Wireless page and hit ALL OFF, then turn WiFi back on... that usually does it too.

thanks but ...
thanks, but i do not get a 'disconnect' option.

I've also tried to turn the wifi off and on...to no avail.

i'm pretty sure that i am just not finding where to put the settings in properly

when i look at the connections page, all i see are:

-add a new modem connection
-add a new VPN server connection
-set up my proxy server

shouldn't it say "add a new wireless connection"?

furthermore, when i get to the Make a New Connection window, I can enter a name for my connection (default is MY CONNECTION), but the drop down for 'select a modem' doesn't include the wireless adapter. furthermore, the adapter isn't a modem...so what am i doing wrong?

Is there a screen capture tool that i can use to capture each screen so that I can get someone to follow along?

I had the same problem and phoned HP. The first thing they had me check was if the wireless router was set to "b" or "g". The 4700 can only p/u "b" sigs. Therefore the router must be set on "B' or "mixed b&g". I changed it from "g" and my 'Paq is flyin'
