Interesting Story
I was in the office today when a fellow coworker and I got to talking about Time Management. We both ended up revealing that we use PDA's for daytimers. This coworker is by no means as passionate about the PDA as we are, it is simply a tool and as long as it had a date book she would be happy. My point here is that she would have an unbiased opinion of PDA's.

Anyway, she asked if she could see mine...the minute I pulled it out she said "Oh, this must be a really old one" I ask why and she said, "well it's all square and big". Fact is, now that I've heard this, she's not wrong. The 4700 is definitely dual personality, it could fit in quite nicely in the past or present depending on how you look at it!

I had a Jornada 568 before this, and when I first saw the 4700 on a webpage I thought...hmm..I have to get one of those.

Anyway, I was expecting it to be big.

I put off the idea of buying one for a while (lack of €€€), until one day, I was in a department store in front of my office, and saw an older couple being shown a couple of PDAs. One of the boxes that the guy working at the store had in his hand was for an hx4700 (which I'd never seen there on display)...so I walked over to him after he'd stopped talking to the couple, and asked him if I could see the 4700.

He opened the box, and the first thing I thought was...wow, this is smaller than I expected! next thing I knew, my body and mind had been taken over by the HP Body-snatcher squas, and I was walking out of the department store with an hx4700 in my hand, a wide grin on my face, and a burning sensation in my wallet.

Got home and compared the size to the jornada 568, and low and behold, they're practically the same size (4700 is thinner).

So to cut things short, it looked pretty small to me to begin with...but now, yeah...it does look kind of large...and man is that display crystal clear

Well it would be interesting to see what her PDA is. I bet it is a Palm. I would just whip my baby out and show her all of the cool things that I can do with it.

Off Topic (kinda)

I have a 2215, one of my co-workers has a 1910, several others have palms. Of all of them, my 2215 beats them hands down on ease of use, display, etc. All of the others are smaller, but not by all that much. All of these easily fit into a shirt pocket. Only mine is set up for intense multimedia demonstrations. It is kinda cool to show that stuff off. If I had one of the VGA models, I would definitely have some stuff on it just to show off the capabilities (whether or not I would actually use the stuff in a work environment). I even recorded some porn off of cable and showed it to a couple of our "special" employees (by special, I am not referring to mental disabilities, just social disabilities). Both are now saving for iPaqs and intend to have them by Christmas (I know I'm bad, but gawd that was funny watching their faces).

I wonder how many others think the same thing. The way I look at it, when you turn it on and see how amazing the screen is, that should automatically prove it is the latest and greatest. Besides, after using my hx4700 for over about 2 months, I finally turned to my 3835, which I hadn't really used since I got my hx4700, and I see how much farther back the screen is (behind the front) and that is probably why the screen 1. looks so good and 2. smears when pushed on with moderate force -- because the screen is closer to the top and this allows HP to fit more stuff in there.

To tell you the truth, I don't like the smaller PDA's. I had a 1910 for a day or two and took it back and got 3955.

I don't much care what it looks like. Just that it has the right size holes in all the right places and shines bright and clear. It also has to play well with others and communicate in many formats. I'm very happy with my 4705. Yea, it has a few bugs, but they are not deal breakers. We're getting along just fine and I'm still figuring out how to best exploit its capabilities.

Problem is, I keep spending little bits of cash for things to make it better. i.e. more flash cards, usb host card, BT GPS, etc...

Now I'm waiting for my new BT keyboard to arrive.....

Then a car holder

Then a BT mouse

Somebody stop me.... take my debit card away!!! Please!!!

I did a similar thing... I had shown one of my co-workers my 4705 and he said "My color Palm device can do that too." So that night I went home and pulled some "pics" down off the web, and brought it back the next day to show him that, in fact, his device couldn't compete with the VGA PPC. It made an impression on him and he is now looking to upgrade... he he he.

I just sold my Zodiac 2 for that reason, It was a really cool PDA but it could not handle the movies to my taste. I would have to encode it @ 320 x 240 and then zoom the player to get it full screen but the quality when downhill very quickly.
