Crap, we've been beaten!!
I just looked on the aximsite forums and what did i see...There's now a 2700g optimized betaplayer. On top of that the x50v gets up to 190% with the matrix trailer!!

I don't care that much myself. As long as the device plays it at full speed, who cares?

The screen on the 4700 makes up for the % loss IMO, but gaming on the other hand.

Another thing... the hx4705 wasen't optimized for betaplayer yet, and probly won't ever be. We'll just have to wait on our friend Picard.

It was only a matter of time before Picard was going to pull that off, That guy is awesome.

Personally I couldn't care less - for gaming I'll use my Athlon 65 3500+ with x800 xt...I bought the 4700 for it's processor and large screen...and quality. You couldn't pay me to use Dell Axims...

Hmm, I find some heavy biased things in there. For one, the Axim x50v is a great machine, and fair quality to boot. It has everything that the ipaq has exept for the screen and outer casing.

I really don't understand you're hatred torwards them and it comes across as childish to me. Not everyone can afford a 700$ x800xt. I like mobile gaming because I, unfortunatly ( ) , don't sit at my desk 24/7. In fact, I am having a hard enough time justifying the price for the ipaq, but the screen pulled me in like a magnet.

That aside I think the hx4705 is a better machine. It has metal casing, and a large nice screen. I also like the flip cover a lot, because it is protected very well even while using the device.

Cheers all -

It's the same deal over @ Aximsite, it's very difficult to get a true comparison since most people seem to be trying to justify their purchase. You can go back and forth all day about which is better, kind of like deomcrat vs. republican. I just ordered an X50v last night for $414.38 all in so it was a deal I could not pass up. Anyways I hope to see how the devices compare against each other but in the end it is only my opinion.

I go by product history FIRST! My HP Jornada PPC ROCKED, my Dell desktop PC sucked. Now I'm in the market for a new Pocket PC. Seeing as my old Jornada was the shit, and HP wasn't mean to me like Dell, HP quickly wins my sale regardless of hardware performance compared to the Dell. OK, so the dell can get a higher benchmark. Whatever, benchmarks aren't the end-all decision maker. Fist off, I think Axims are ugly. Second, as long as the iPaq is going to do what I want, I really don't care if the Dell could've done one or two things faster. Besides, any purchase comes down to personal prference. I won't buy a Dell if they made pacemakers and I was dying, yet a friend of mine LOVES Dell.

OFF TOPIC:
LOL, I got so mad at my Dell desktop, and the lack of decent support, that I beat the crap out of it, took picutures of the mutilated case and scattered bits, and mailed it to Dell. I never got a response.

I wanted a x50v !!! It was small, had VGA screen and bosted CF & SD Slots. Now to cap it all of was £200 cheaper in the UK than the iPAQ hx4700.

Now to cut a long, long, long story. I ordered one, so Dell took my money and said I'd have the unit in approx 7 working days. 8 weeks later the unit still hadn't arrived. So I phone them up and told them exactly what I thought about them their company etc etc odbviosly hoping for a further discount! instead they told me that it would be another 3 weeks before it arrived. SO I TOLD THEM TO STUFF THE X50V UP THERE BACKSIDE (honest I did). I broke the phone smashing it to the receiver.

30minutes later I had ordered an iPAQ hx4700, best thing I've every done. It arrived the next day.

The x50v might be an execellant PPC but DELL PLC are the biggest bunch of a*#*holes this side of the known universe

I have used both x50v and 4700. Deciding factor in changing from x50v to 4700 were 1. batterylife 2. buildquality 3. screen quality. It is also quite apparent that in PIM use 4700 is faster. I also got the 3d games with the x50v, looked great, played like crap. Anyway, for USA price difference I still would say that x50v is a better deal. In Europe not quite so. But then again, buying the one you really want does have a certain value in itself, at least for me.

I thought I'd take a look at what Dell has to offer. I spent a few minutes trying to find the option to view all products (at the very least by catagory). It seems that Dell insists on telling you what products you need depending upon if you are a Home, Small, Medium or Large Business or Public sector. I find that "Vertical" segregation of products condesending. I am sure I can compare the different capabilities and make my own decision!
I gave up and probably won't bother with Dell again and stick with my hx4700

Hey Micah, no hatred here, just my personal experience with the older line of Axims and Inspiron line of notebooks. For what it's worth, I own 2 businesses and our notebook vendor *is* Dell, but we use Latitudes, not Inspirons, and we pay for next business day on-site repair contracts. They recently earned my business for my companies because they are more responsive IME for businesses compared to consumers. Now, for my employees if I decide to go to PDA's the x50 would be strong contender because I'm not going to pay for (IMHO) the best PDA for them, they don't need the 4700...but the boss does <grin>.
