HX4700 or Dell X50V - I Have a Problem
Hiya All

I am writing this in hope that someone can help me make the right decision and not end up going through a divorce

I have a problem , i admit it and am not ashamed, and if there were a AA eqivelent for PDA users , i would be there as a regular uncured member.

To give you an idea , i had the Ipaq 5450 , with every imaginable add on you can think of , a lot of money spent on kitting it up and bless my wife , she didnt say a thing , except the occasional hmmm where did that come from.

I then read about the HX4700 and waited and waited like i am sure many of you did to , so i thought to make it easier i would sell my 5450 with all the
extras and buy the HX4700 , i then waited , and lost weight , hair and my general good health.

I could weight no longer "pun intended" so i though sod this im going through cold turkey " Happy Thanks Giving BTW" and went and bout the O2 XDA2 nice for about 2 weeks , i then couldnt stand the shoddy support from O2 that and the totaly cr@p screen, so i sold it after 3 weeks.

I then purchased the HX4700 kitted out with a 1 Gig SD and 512 CF im happy , I think........ and now the Dell X50V with Intel 2600 Gfx being able to push out 40fps on beta player , can anyone tell me is there any real reason i should not upgrade to that a comparison review would be ideal , sorry to drag this out and yes i do need help :P

Thanks In Advance

RF

If you can only keep one maybe you should order the Dell and see which one you will like better. If it pushes you over the edge I just ordered the X50v last night and it's ETA is this Friday already. I only paid $414.38 for the X50v and 3pack stylus, that includes taxes and no charge for the shipping. I'm interested in seeing which one I will like better.

The screen.

If you are playing movies then screens matter. The 4700 has a larger and more vibrant screen, and I find that much better than an 5fps difference. I donno if Picard plans to optimize a beta player for the hx4700 or not, you may want to contact him.

But seriously, does the video not play full speed on the ipaq? I just don't understand why zanyone would wnt to downsize the screen when the fps difference is not very noticable. Most movies are framed at 30fps anyways, and thats what VHS and Cable is if I am not mistaken. I just love the size of the screen and the saturation is superb for movies.

Now, that said the dell is not bad at all for movies. Better than many other pocket pc devices on the market, butit still lacks in picture quality due to the screen.

I have seen both devices and I hope to compair and review the two this week or next.

Thx
Thanks for your unbiased advice , i am looking forward to your reviews , i agree the 4" display is down right sexy , dropping down to anything below that now would be shame, my concern in the 2600 gfx processor and what it can do that the ATI cant , the other big seller on the HX is the fact that it has a metal casing something i believe all High end PDA's should have once again many thanks for your help and advice.

regards

personally deciding between the HP and the dell i came to the conclusion that the dells 16mb graphics vs the hps 2mb would be better for the future, also the x50v is smaller, has a true dpad for gaming, has a smaller screen, yet coming from an X5 the screen still looks large and very vibrant, the metal case on the hp almost feels like plastic to me (its not like the cool metal case on the hp5xxx)

also the price diference, i could get the dell for 449 and the hp for 589

to me they are very close but i like the smaller size and larger 16mb graphics on the dell

thats just my 2cents

Get an HP!
I currently own a Dell Axim X5 and a X30... I had an X50V on order and then came to my senses and cancelled it. I remember how buggy those axims were and I was sick of it. At the time the X50V came out, if you were to buy the extended battery with it, you would have been close to the same price for the 2 units. I now have my HX4705 with a 1GB SD card and a 4GB Microdrive and I am so happy that I did it. This unit is ROCK SOLID STABLE. The Dell's have been toys in comparison. Oh before I had the X5, I had a Jornada 568 and I loved that machine as well.... I'm simply done with dell. I always felt like a beta tester for them...

Take this for what it's worth!

The Ipaq has 8mb graphics, not 2 if I am not mistaken. There are 2 games (which are far from advanced, and practicaly demo's) that work with the intel chip, and there won't be many more unless other developers such as asus and hp pick up that chip also, and that could take months.

And grentz... It doesen't feel like plastic to me. I find it much more duable feeling than the other, and it doesen't matter how it feels, it is more of an issue on how well it protects the innerds.

Thanks
Thanks to all who have replied , I agree that the HX case does feel somewhat plastic in comparison to my old 5450. Hmmm i have a feeling
that the next HX4710/20/30/40 or wat ever it may be will have the 2600 chip which means that ill have to uprade , ah well , ill guess ill have to just deal with the fact that everytime a new PDA comes out ill end up selling mine and buying the newest , shineist pda i can get for my sheckles. now when will the manafactures make my dream pda 1Ghz CPU/1Gig Ram/4" VGA/3.0 Megapixel Camera/GPS/GPRS/GSM.

Thanks Again Guys

Iwrestled for weeks with the question of x50v vs. 4705. As a Dell PDA user for the past few years, I was inclined toward the Dell (in fact, I've owned Windows CE/PPC/WM PDAs since the Casio E100 was new and never owned an iPaq before). I have 2 Axim X5s and despite some users complaining about tons of problems, I never really had any issues with my X5s.

I read all the stats for both the x50v and 4705. The price difference almost sold me on the Dell. But in the end, the 4705s screen, more appropriately powered battery, and the outpouring of peaise for most iPaq devices in the PPC community overall sold me on giving the 4705 a shot. I've had it for about a month now and I love it. (don't like the touchpad, it does suck for gaming but then again the D-pad on every other PPC I've ever owned has sucked for gaming too - my fingers are just far too large for such tiny controls).

The ipaq has 384 kb internal memory and 2mb external memory (look in beta player, it tellls you about the ati version, memory, etc)
Second of all its the 2700g not 2600. The x50v has a 2700g5 with 704 kb internal memory and 16mb external
http://www.intel.com/design/pca/prodbref/300571.htm
You forgot to add the fact that the ati chip has a bug where divx videos fade in and out with a green tint. Betaplayer has an option to help with it but it's still annoying as hell

I ordered both and ended up canceling the X50v after testing one of my co-workers unit. The hx4705, in my humble opinion, is a superior product for my business needs. If I were a gamer, I would have gone with the Dell. Good luck.

I've always prefered HP over Dell, but right now in this quality vs. price matter I have a real problem. Now I can get a Dell X50v for about $360 thats a hard to reject offer, I think HP unit is too expensive now. I've liked my Ipaq 2215, a very good PPC, It cost me $360, and decided it worth the extras $$$$ over Axim X5, but right now its a tough decision. $360 for X50v--- Im almost clicking over "CHECK OUT" I don't know how much time could I resist.

that is a awesome price, You will even have enough left over to get the ppc techs memory upgrade.
