Your issue with the video has more to do with resolution. The hx4700 is capable of resolution of 640 X 480 in VGA. QVGA is 320 X 240. Most downloaded video is encoded for QVGA and not VGA. Whenever you go to full screen it will maximize to the largest resolution that it is encoded for. Since the hx4700 is capable of larger resolutions than QVGA devices you will find a black border around the video when it is encoded for QVGA devices. If you want to get rid of the borders then you will have to reencode the video to support VGA resolution.

You could also try Betaplayer with the asf plugin (to watch wmv format). It will fill the screen. A bit of distortion of the video was encoded at 320x240, but nothing too bad.

A convert
I have been messing about with various tools to try and make Media Player work well in VGA mode. I managed to get a reasonable job done but the file sizes were a tad large and the video quality was "jumpy".
I finally did what everyone on this forum says which is to try DIVX with Betaplayer. I bought the DIVX Pro version for 30% better compression / quality - it only cost £13! I use RiverPast's Video Cleaner (appx $30) to do the conversion with a LAME audio encoder (Free).

All I can say IS WOW!!!!!!!!! Its like HDTV in your pocket!

I sincerely think you should ditch Media Player immediately for video viewing!
