I need your help!
I've looked everywhere and tried every thread (on this board and an Aximsite) and have been unable to surf the web using my hx4705 and my Motorola v551 using Bluetooth on Cingular. I've been able to get them to connect, but I keep getting the error message "The answering modem has disconnected". Any ideas?

You might want to try cingulat tech support. It's kind of silly but I know they have disabled the bt modems on some of their phoned and only allow them to be used with headsets.

I've talked to the Cingular tech support three times and had their "highest level" tech on that could not get me connected. Anyone else?

Yes, they do connect (at least says it is connected) and then it disconnects and says the error message "The answering modem has disconnected". Thanks

Toddfather I think Whitelyt was asking if you can initiate phone calls from your iPAq to your phone - ie use bluetooth dialing from your iPaq.

Also - are you able to surf the internet on your phone on its own?

In some cases different phones require certain modem initialization strings to properly function as a dialup modem. Regardless is you are using the phone to connect via GPRS or an ISP the phone still acts as a wireless modem. I would contact the carrier to see if certain modem initialization strings are required for your particular phone.

I would also recommend looking at www.howardforums.com. It is the leading wireless cellphone forum available. It is not as friendly over there but there is still a mountain of information there regarding cellphones.
